Cops or criminals; when you're facing a loaded gun what's the difference?

A big-budget Hollywood star power remake of the Hong Kong classic crime thriller Infernal Affairs.

Two men operate on different sides of the law; one a mole with the Boston State Police department, the other within the Irish mafia. When bloodshed breaks out on the streets, each mole is despatched to discover the other's identity in a race against time...

Marty finally collected the Best Director statuette at the 2007 Oscars after decades of bad luck. Not only that but the Departed also picked up awards for Best Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best film!

The Departed is a poor copy of the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs. The departed is almost a carbon copy of infernal affairs the only difference being the cliche'd hollywood ending! Martin Scorsese doesn't deserve to win a Oscar for this film. Its about time hollywood stopped making remakes of asian cinema and came up with their own ideas.

One word describes this film and that is WOW, it is absolutly amazing, great storyline and superb acting by everyone... the film is fast paced and keeps the story going so your not getting bored, theres plenty of shooting, which is always good in a film, Scorsese deserves an Oscar for this film which will definatly become an instant classic... The ending of this film i didn't expect i was just like :-o --- Shocked face, did NOT expect that, which was another good thing it didn't follow the usual hollywood film plan of something happens, they talk/shoot it out, the end... it was full of unexpected twists and turns that keep you glued to the screen.... AMAZING work from Scorsese and a MUST BUY!!! 5 Stars *****

 Poor, poor, poor

I had heard great things about this film but missed it at the cinema. I got it on DVD and was looking forward to a 'Scormeister' classic. All through the film, with the exception of trying not to find Jack's gangster caricature and half-baked copy of Marlon Brando too laughable, I found the whole thing very familar - and then it clicked it was a frame for frame copy of the excellent Infernal Affairs. Except this was totally useless. Pointless subplots that add nothing and often go nowhere, lazy attempts at changing the story line, over-bearing 'mood' music, useless accents. Such great talents wasted. The whole depth and personal conflict completely lost by bad direction and Leonardo and Matt's one dimensional bad and good cops. See the original, but dont waste your money on this waste of shelf space. What was the director thinking - where's his flair and originality gone? - and the critics who praised it! They just cant have seen the original IA as many don't even mention it in their reviews. Basically less than one out of ten!

 Excellent remake

This is Scorsese's take on the Hong Kong Infernal Affairs film. There are some standout performances from all the leads, Nicholson is at his nastiest best. Scorsese's direction is as fluid as ever, and his trademark use of rock 'n roll music during scenes works brilliant. The conversion from Triad to Boston mobsters also works very well. I would say this is on par with Goodfellas.

Scorsese almost back to his best.

After three less than brilliant films, Scorsese has gone back to what he does best. And although not up with his classics, this is certainly a great thriller with Nicholson stealing every scene he's in. Even Mark Wahlberg is good in it, and I never thought I'd say that about him. A few people might be disappointed by the ending, although I felt it worked well, but it could be argued that it was a rather simplistic way to tie up all the loose ends.
