The story of the most fabled political family in American history, told in a manner similar to The Godfather: a manipulative, egocentric father determined to live out his own ambitions through his sons, who in turn spent their lives dancing to his tune while at the same time trying to stand on their own.

This is history through personality - the tangled relationships through which paint a picture of one of the most turbulent periods of the modern age. Viewers will be upstairs at the White House, not in the Cabinet Room. Through iconic events in history - the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the civil rights struggle, the mob connection - viewers will learn about the lesser known, yet critical personal stories.

Absolutely brilliant. One of the best things I have seen on TV in a very long time. The casting of the hugely underrated Greg Kinnear as JFK is inspiring, and the rest of the cast worth watching too. I just didn't want it to end, and counting the days for the dvd release. Roll on July 4th!

I thought this series was excellent...gripping watching even though you knew the outcome at the end. The casting was excellent, I didn't want it to end and I now can't wait to watch it again. Best thing I have seen in ages and if there is anyone that didn't like it, well that's their opinion...

The series is quite gripping, with some good acting, but the overall effect is of a soap opera, which I guess is the way they hope to draw in viewers. Accept that and you will find it an enjoyable watch.

 A Finely Made Soap Opera.

The Kennedys (2011) is a TV miniseries written by Stephen Kronish (24) and starring Greg Kinnear, Katie Holmes, Barry Pepper and Tom Wilkinson.

This is an expensive and expertly made TV series. It looks beautiful and the cast do a first rate job. Director Jon Cassar (24) does a great job.

Kinnear is very convincing as JFK and well supported by Katie Holmes as his wife Jackie Kennedy. Wilkinson adds a touch of class as family monarch Joe Kennedy Sr.

The real star though is Barry Pepper who is brilliant as Bobby Kennedy. Pepper perfectly captures the mannerisms and speech patterns of the younger Kennedy brother and completely disappears into the character.

The main problems with The Kennedys is that despite the best efforts of the cast the show lacks the bite and quality of a HBO show. The Kennedys tries very hard to be a respected drama but sadly its falls short and is more soap opera then serious drama.

 An embarassment

This is an insult to the Kennedy family, particularly JFK, Jackie and RFK. The performances are stereoptypical rehashed rubbish we've seen time and time and again. It was a slushy, lazy production lacking any thought, research or structure.

Writing was terrible, accents were hilarious and Greg Kinnear might never recover from it?

If you think this is good... my guess is that you don't watch much quality television.
