On Earth in the 22nd century, Daleks have enslaved the planet and humans live in fear of their masters. Meanwhile, back in the 20th century, a peace conference is urgently needed to prevent World War Three. When reports reach UNIT of a ghost at Auderly House - the site for the conference - the Doctor and Jo decide to investigate. Danger is waiting for them there, including a trip two hundred years into the future without the TARDIS...

New cgi and Dalek voices- Really can't wait

Yes, we all know the voices and lack of Daleks in the final conflict let the story down, but now this is no longer the issue, as those fellows at 2entertain once again save the day with some cracking new effects.

This a good Dalek story, sadly once let down by the poor portrayal of the Daleks, but this regular criticism will be shot out of the water. Since this is their first appearance in the series since 1967, this story feels even more special, brought about due to popular public demand at the time and popularised by Blue Peter. I look forward to this with gusto

Watching the Day of the Daleks and the comments made by Nick Briggs only echoed what I thought when I watched this story on the original VHS release. What's wrong with the Dalek voices?. What is great about this is the second disc, the voices have been re-created by Nick Briggs and give them so much more power, than the weak original voices. Not only have the voices been re dubbed by the effects are all CGI and again appear to have added to the story. What is strange the editing appears to let a little bit of the the theme tune each time the cliffhanger is replayed at the beginning of episodes 2,3, and 4. The restoration team need a pat on the back for this one, my only Question is, did all the money go on this story allowing no money left to re-colourise Invasion of the Dinosaurs part 1, what a shame, this shows what is possible. The extras include the Unit story part 2, the making of the special edition, a clip from Blue peter, an amusing looking at the Unit dating problem(the time zone the stories are set in. All and all a great edition to the DVD range.

 The Day of The Daleks

Another good Doctor Who DVD to due to come out. I have been looking forward to this coming out for a while and reading that Nick Briggs who voice's The Daleks for the New Series is putting his voice to the Metal Monster's in this story, is like a dream come true.

The 3rd Doctor DVD's have been flying out this past year and this a going to be a great story to end the year on before Revisitations 3 comes out.

Best 3rd Doctor story - a must buy on DVD

One of my favourite Dr Who stories of all time I still have a treasured copy on Laser Disc (remember those?) the tale is well constructed moving between time zones at a time when the Doctor could not make use of the Tardis. Loved the Daleks using the old tunnels which added to the dark and grim atmosphere no end. If youre a fan of the 3rd Doctor (my FAV) you have to buy this. Fully recommended without hesitation.

 Torture Scene

I'm very impressed with the restored version. However, I'm old enough to have seen this story when it was first broadcast and unfortunately it is not the complete version it is promoted as. There was a scene where the Daleks were torturing the Doctor with the mind probe, to force him to admit who he is, which hasn't been restored. In the 70's the BBC would repeat certain Doctor Who stories as a complete edited together "film" (no episodes) and I suspect this scene was cut out to appease the likes of Mary Whitehouse when Day of the Daleks was re-broadcast. The scene may, of course, have been destroyed years ago. If you watch it again with this knowledge in place, I think you'll realise a feeling of something missing. Having said all this, my hat is off to the restoration team - a job superbly done!
