Tom Ronstadt (John Simm) is a successful London journalist who, with his career and life falling apart, returns to his home town in Lancashire for the first time in 18 years.

He finds his father Sam (Jim Broadbent), who Tom idolised as a child, in the grip of Alzheimer's - a once formidable man now being cared for by his sister Nancy (Olivia Coleman).

Over the three episodes Tom unravels the mystery linked to his childhood that drove him away all those years ago. As his frustrations grow with his father's failure to remember the past, he persists unaware that he is unearthing a devastating crime that will reveal secrets he could never have imagined.

This was an outstanding series, but why wouldn't it be with John Simm, Jim Broadbent, and Olivia Coleman. What you think is a well written tale of a family coping with Alzheimers becomes a thriller with a fascinating (if grotesque) delve into a past scandal which affects their lives in a devastating way. Outstanding performances and a superb script combine to offer an excellent series.

Well worth watching this dvd i watched this on tv excellent....will purchase this dvd asap,well worth another viewing.

A very enjoyable and engrosing piece of tv drama, fantastic acting by jim broadbent and john simm,very good back story, a few plot holes aside, top notch drama!
