A very well made and filmed adaption of the Patricia Highsmith novel 'The Talented Mr Ripley' remains a fine psychological drama/thriller with a boatload of themes and ideas within that has aged very well in the eleven years since it first was released.
Initially through a case of mistaken identity coupled with opportunism the young Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) is sent from New York to Italy to bring back to his family errant playboy Dickie (Jude Law) who is enjoying the high life with girlfriend Marge (Gwyneth Paltrow). 'Inviting' himself into their lives he begins to be easily seduced by the wealthy lifestyle and a combination of his desire to enjoy it more and his developing obsession with Dickie himself leads to a turn of events that conspires to make the smart yet dangerous Tom Ripley the centre of a 'cat and mouse' game of deception, greed, murder and shifting identity.
Filmed gloriously on locations around Europe, perfectly acted it's an intelligent film to get drawn into and it's wonderful to see so many stars concentrated in one film all bringing terrific performances to their roles.
An excellent thriller.
