The belief in evil - and that evil can be cast out. From these two strands of faith, author William Peter Blatty and director William Friedkin wove The Exorcist, the frightening and realistic story of an innocent girl inhabited by a malevolent entity.
Academy Award winner Friedkin, who introduces the film and supervised this new video transfer from restored picture and audio elements, gets effective performances from Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Max von Sydow and Lee J. Cobb. The Exorcist remains, 25 years later, one of the most shocking and gripping movies ever made.

Top 10 DVD Reviewer
This film was one of the most controversial topics of its time of release in the 70's. As a horror film, the exorcism process is horrfying and is built up as an intense climax. This was the film that caused countless people to yell and run from the cinema out of fear. The idea of being possessed by the devil is visually frightening, and the image of the girl's degradation to a worser situation all the while is effective. This film does not warrant a 5 star rating, however, since its impact is not as well felt today as it was 30 years ago, because it does not have the effect of shock.
For an old horror movies this is a masterpiece.

Well I'm 16 and i saw this a couple of years ago, and that film freaked me out for awhile, but i was easily scared. Some people find it scary some people find it hilarious. After watching the film a couple of times after i don't find it scary anymore. Tis a great horror movie great effect(for it's time). The film's kina slow at the start but its still awesome. I'd recommend this to any horror fan. This is way better then films like texas chainsaw masscre(i laughed my ass off watching it). Awesome horrror!!!!!!!
