The belief in evil - and that evil can be cast out. From these two strands of faith, author William Peter Blatty and director William Friedkin wove The Exorcist, the frightening and realistic story of an innocent girl inhabited by a malevolent entity.
Academy Award winner Friedkin, who introduces the film and supervised this new video transfer from restored picture and audio elements, gets effective performances from Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Max von Sydow and Lee J. Cobb. The Exorcist remains, 25 years later, one of the most shocking and gripping movies ever made.

now, it may be true that this isn't the scariest movie ANYMORE but just imagine the impact it had in 1973 and you can really understand what an amzing film this is. anyways i fount it scary in places (not nightmare scary) but still prety jumpy.
ps.
the fact that my dog started rolling round on her back and started making weird noises while i was watching it probs made it scarier for me lol.
but it
Not everybody seems to realise that this isn't supposed to be a horror flick. Director, Billy Friedkin and the writer of the book and screenplay, William Peter Blatty set out to make a film about faith. Specifically the faith of the characters around Regan McNeill and how her possession tested that faith.
As an Athiest, I have to say, the film didn't make me start going to church again but it is an amazingly powerful piece of film making and as close as any film has come to making the case for the power of faith.
Excellent direction and fantastic performances help elevate the film above standard horror fayre (although the first time you see it you'll be terrified!!!).
Well I'm 16 and i saw this a couple of years ago, and that film freaked me out for awhile, but i was easily scared. Some people find it scary some people find it hilarious. After watching the film a couple of times after i don't find it scary anymore. Tis a great horror movie great effect(for it's time). The film's kina slow at the start but its still awesome. I'd recommend this to any horror fan. This is way better then films like texas chainsaw masscre(i laughed my ass off watching it). Awesome horrror!!!!!!!
The Exorcist is probably the most heard of horror movie ever made, a set in stone iconic horror movie thats very forward thinking for the time it was made, a genuine shocker full of dread thats very well directed and has brilliant acting performances from the cast, the effects are quality for back then and still look convincing today, for any horror collection this has to be there, it may not be the scariest film ever now but its certainly a cult classic and should be seen for the quality filmmaking and strong story and acting.
This film was one of the most controversial topics of its time of release in the 70's. As a horror film, the exorcism process is horrfying and is built up as an intense climax. This was the film that caused countless people to yell and run from the cinema out of fear. The idea of being possessed by the devil is visually frightening, and the image of the girl's degradation to a worser situation all the while is effective. This film does not warrant a 5 star rating, however, since its impact is not as well felt today as it was 30 years ago, because it does not have the effect of shock.
