The much anticipated release of the first season of Star Trek Voyager saw the franchise boldly do what it does best and provide fans with fantastically scripted, highly entertaining science-fiction. Star Trek: Voyager made sci-fi history when it became the first Star Trek series to feature a female Captain.

Along with the short lived Enterprise series this series was by far my favourite Trek series must have collection just shame it's not Blu-ray.
Excellent special features though including some TOS episodes!

When a Federation Starship The U.S.S. Voyager is sent across the Universe against it crew's will by an unknown force, the new ship lead by it's new Captain Katheren Janeway must join force's with a group of ciminals in order to survive and find a way home.

Star Trek Voyager was not a bad show and kept in the same timeline as Next Gen and Deep Space Nine. The show would bring back The Borg but I think it became a bit to inslaved to them as they would return more or less in every season after number 4. There are some great stand out episode such as Future's End Parts 1 and 2 in the third season and Equinox at the end of the 5th and start of the 6th season. If your a Star Trek fan there is a lot to enjoy here. It's not my personal best Trek series (that still goes to The Next Generation) but as I said a lot to enjoy from the 4 spin off of The Star Trek Story.

A Decent Addition to the Star Trek Franchise

Whilst pursuing a renegade Marquis ship the Starfleet vessel USS Voyager and its crew find themselves stranded in the Delta Quadrant 70,000 light years from Earth. Facing a journey of an estimated seventy-five years the two vessels join forces in the hope they can someday find a way home.

Rewatching Voyager on DVD more than a decade after it ended the special effects, for the most part, still hold up and it certainly had a host of strong and interesting characters, particularly once Seven of Nine joined the crew.

Like all Star Trek series however Voyager was inconsistent throughout its seven season run. Alongside fantastically written episodes like The Void and the two-part Equinox that matched the very best of television sci-fi (despite the odd plot hole) viewers were also subjected to a number of forgettable episodes as well as truly terrible hours of television like 'Threshold' in which Tom Paris inexplicably finds himself transforming into a giant pink salamander!

In the end despite some clunky dialogue and a number of missed opportunities to push the boundaries a little further Star Trek: Voyager made a decent addition to the franchise and, providing you didn't think too deeply about it, usually proved to be an entertaining enough watch for most sci-fi fans.

taking into account "enterprise"...which was re-christened "star trek-enterprise" ,voyager has to be the worst of all the trek offshoots.a great pilot followed by roughly 1 good episode for every 5 bad ones coupled with some total stinkers (fair haven, prototype) to name just two..add some really superfluous characters who went nowhere/did nothing (kes,neelix)..throw in a ship that if you looked at it too hard all its power went offline and you have a mish-mash of good/bad/terrible ideas....yes it had some superb episodes (in the flesh, timeless plus the excellent 2 part finale`) but all in all it was not a patch on DS9 or enterprise...which is sad.
