Wow, what can I say! I was there last night in Manchester (Friday 10th June) when they recorded it for the dvd and it was absolutely fantastic. Got on the front row and held hands with Jason and Howard so made it even more special for me. Doesn't matter it you're a Take That fan of old, new, younger, maturer - this concert dvd will be for anyone. Right from the opening song "Rule The World" as a 4 piece to the last "Eight Letters" as a 5 piece the night was completely magical :) Enjoy! xxxx
After much deliberation and 'umming and arring' I decided to get tickets for this when some more were released a month prior to the tour. I'd never been a fan of Robbie Williams' voice and his antics and behaviour initially made me decide to give The Progress Tour a miss (despite attending the UT, BW and TC tours). I'm very glad I changed my mind. The beginning of the show - starting with the TT4 was rather subdued - one minute I was chatting to my companion and the next she said 'oh - they're on' .... so unlike the carnival like entrance at the beginning of The Circus. In fact - it was only the always excellent 'Hold Up A Light' that saved the opening set.
Enter Robbie Williams - and this is when the concert came to life (bear in mind this is from a non-Williams fan). He was excellent. The behaviour that has annoyed me from afar on numerous TV appearances was quite enthralling. His banter comes off a lot more 'off the cuff' sounding, and unrehearsed than Gary Barlow does (even though I'm certain both parties rehearse to the minutest detail). Williams voice, although not the best in the world is totally appropriate for the songs he sings - and I must admit - I was aching to hear and see Rock DJ performed live. I did take a loo break when Angels began - but only because I truly cannot abide this maudling, turgid song.
From here on - the show just got better and better. I'd have preferred them to leave out a couple of the new songs - they included a couple of turkeys - and on the night I was there (for some unfathomable reason) they missed out the brilliant Happy Now. I'm hoping this finds its way onto the final DVD - assuming they included it in the later, recorded gigs. Stand-out songs from the Progress era, on the tour, were Love, Love and the brilliant performance of Kidz - with a sort of chess-board scenario and 'dance-off' between Howard Donald and Jason Orange.
I think though, the best bits for me were when Take That performed the old TT stuff - and especially seeing Robbie whole-heartedly joining in - including the daft Pray dance!
On the whole, conceptually this wasn't as good as The Circus - nor Beautiful World for that matter. However - there were flashes of brilliance and despite being a sceptic - I'm glad I saw Take That as a fivesome. I do hope that any future concerts they do (although I fear this was a 'swansong') will be as a fivesome.
I was there on th 18th of July in Amsterdam !!!
It is now a night that I can never forget !!! Best Show I've ever seen ... Just Ordered this DVD so that I can remember the night over and over again whenever I want !!! 100% Robbie Fan From MALTA !!!
Many years ago i saw Queen at Wembley and since then no act has ever been as good. This has changed, how can I say Take That were as good, well hand on heart they give you everything, and manage as Freddie Mercury did, to make you feel you are the only important member of the audience. There are not many acts in the world today who can do this (America don't no what they are missing). I have to say the new material is far better than the original 90's songs, but during the concert you only have a few never forget which is still great, Back for good, Pray and medley of oldies at the piano. The concert works so well with the four member of Take that opening the show with songs from Beautiful world and the Circus, then Robbie Williams gives you 30 minutes of hits. Then they are all on stage for songs from Progress. For Wembley the sound was very good and was such an enjoyable evening. The Circus changed my mind about Take That this concert confirmed I was right they are a solid unit and it is so nice to see, I so recommend this if like me you like the new stuff you will love this concert film.
I received the DVD on Saturday and immediately sat down to watch it, I was not disappointed, the whole of the amazing concert is there, I was at Manchester where it was filmed which makes it even more special to me. Can't wait for the next tour!!!
