Academy Award winner Robin Williams shakes up 1965 Saigon in the role the critics agree he was born to play - irreverant, non-conformist deejay Adrian Cronauer. Imported by the army for an early am radio show, Cronauer blasts the formerly staid, sanitized airwaves with a constant barrage of rapid-fire humour and the hippest tunes from back home. The GI's love him - but the top brass is outraged! Riddled with side-splitting comic bombshells and studded with hot '60's hits, the film depicts Cronauer's raucous Saigon adventures and a world gone mad.

Robin williams in perhaps his best film role. The radio sequences are hilarious, and the film has a touching storyline and eye-opening real footage from the vietnam war(shocking sequence half way through 'wonderful world')

Great Music, Good Balance of Comedy and Drama

One of the most enjoyable aspects of this is the music: some classics from the time of the Vietnam conflict - Martha Reeves And The Vandellas, James Brown, The Beach Boys. The locations are perfect and the scene where the bar is blown up is beautifully done.

@RatchetClank - you clearly missed the whole point of this film. Is it supposed to be an out-and-out comedy? Absolutely not. What you do have here is subtle, situational comedy that is well balanced against what is a very serious (and subtlely presented) political and emotional message about the war.

Granted, this film is neither a great comedy or a great dramatisation of the Vietnam war (ala Full Metal Jacket) which some may criticise it for. Nevertheless, Robin Williams brings a very well balanced performance, capturing the emotion of the plot as well as bringing some of his classic style of humour to it in a light-hearted, and thankfully less intense way that makes this film an enjoyable and very easy film to watch. And at less than a fiver, I don't think you can go wrong.

 A good watch!

I really did enjoy watching this film. Robin williams delivers a great performance and is supported well by the brilliant forest whittaker. The film has high comic value in places, yet beneath that are serious political undertones regarding the vietnam war, which can be a real eye opener.
