Review

You're invited to one of the most celebrated and audaciously funny hit comedies of the year - Muriel's Wedding!

Follow frumpy, misguided Muriel Heslop on her lifelong quest for a glitzy fairy-tale wedding. With visions of nuptials dancing in her head, this ABBA-obsessed misfit ditches her pathetic life and plastic friends in a small Australian suburb for big-city dreams in Sydney. But the road to the altar takes surprising twists and turns - and Muriel is about to learn the lesson of a lifetime.

Wry, witty and hailed by critics everywhere, Muriel's Wedding is one affair you don't want to miss.

Without doubt my favourite film of all time. Muriel spends her life in a dream world, fantasising about getting married. Her very odd family don't help matters.

Toni Collette plays the lead role and gives a faultless performance. The ABBA scene is an absolute screen classic.

I only picked this movie up because I thought my kids would like it...but I have to admit that me and the wife enjoyed it far more. I cannot imagine what the previous reviewers were thinking, but they were terrible reviews.

Muriel's wedding is a sad little tale of a person being left out because she does not fit in with her 'friends', of desperately wanting to be part of a bigger picture.

The scenes of her friend diagnosed with cancer, the wedding, and her mother's suicide are really harrowing.

In between there are the really funny scenes, especially when she returns to her apartment with her date and they try to make out on the couch...it is absolutely hilarious.

After all is said and done, the movie ends with a good lesson, to never abandon friends, a sacrifice worth doing.

A darn good movie, and I am very glad I made this purchase. 4:3 sucks though! But still worth the silly asking price....

Muriel..you're terrible!

Great film - but in dodgy 4:3 pan and scan! About time this is re-released in its proper widescreen. Until then buy the region 1 version.
