Ten years have now passed since Director Tim Buton had a stab at the remake of The Planet of the Apes, and all he managed to do then was to dumb it down.
Now this re-boot/sequel arrives. The story charts the start of the super intelligent chimps as scientist James franco tryies to develop a cure of atlzheimers and in doing so test's the experimental wonder drug on Caesar who was a very intelligent chimp in the first place, but when tested upon the results are amazing. This is best scene when Caesar is housed with the other normal chimps you can see he just looks upon them as idiots. The brilliant thing about this film is that James Franco is not the main character it's actually Caesar and we see the film from his perspective. Caesar is brilliantly captured by CGI and motion capture by the tallented Any Serkis (Gollum, King Kong) in fact so effective is Caesar you end up cheering on the chimps in the revolt against their capture as they fight the humans. The actual Monkey revolution is outstanding as they run riot in San Francisco, ( a little similar to what happend in cities around Britain in August but the chimps in this have far more intelligence and reason! ). The film is let down at times being a little too preachy over the use of experiments in the name of science, but if this is to be the first of many films to come, Rise of the planet of the Apes is a very smart and solid foundation to build on.

King Kong (2005)
From the first time this moment this movie starts, it really draws you into the film. I was not expecting it to be this good, but it really is. The Marky Mark version took me a few attempts to get into, but this I would watch again and again. I am not going to do a Barry Norman style review and give you ratings on the actors, or the plot away, but this is very gripping from the first scene, and draws you into the movie.
Very original take on the POTA story with amazing CGI & acting by those involved. Loved the ending and look forward to the sequel.
A movie which I wasn't expecting a lot from, perhaps a lot of action with a little story, some little bits of drama but overall just an average movie. But infact...
The story is well written, it develops at a nice steady pace which keeps you locked in and enjoying the ride. There's drama, there's some moments of comedy and some good action in the later stages.
Acting wise, James Franco does a good job in the leading role, he's a likeable character and very believable. Of course the real star of the show is the main ape, a lot is computerized but still it's never disappointing.
Overall: Its a really really good movie. It's story driven but never gets dull and is never boring. There's funny moments and many sad moments.
EXCELLENT, MUST SEE
