Denzil Washington plays himself in another film ranging from A to B. Ryan Reynolds also on a career slide joins as a buddy buddy movie of sorts. Now these films fall into two camps, the odd couple or joined at the hip. Neither fits the bill here as a seasoned dark ops guy saddles up with with a lame operative. The interaction is poor and the script is weak. Behind the scenes skullduggary adds a hit of spice but it all plods along like no actor has to make an effort as the pay is the same at the end of filming. I do not know much about powerful people in the US or the CIA but the film wraps up all loose ends in the last few minutes, nice and tidy, live happily ever after. I recommend this film to teenage males who failed to get a girl on a friday night pub crawl. Watch this with a six pack and mates and have a giggle. Not for serious film goers.

Director Daniel Espinosa takes the ever reliable Denzel Washington and the kind of miscast Ryan Reynolds and teams them up in a spy action thriller that's pretty much a mash up of every other film like this you've seen before and does little new apart from set it in the grittier environment of Johannesburg.

When Washington's long sought bad guy gets caught and ends up in Reynolds' safe house it promptly gets blown leaving the two of them on the run in the city trying to work out how the house was found out and who wants them both dead. And if you can't spot that person from the moment they walk onscreen.................well, that's all I'm saying.

Certainly the film has plenty of explosions, car chases, shootouts and standoffs before the finale comes along and it's all efficiently done but with no real flair or imagination either. For me, mostly going to end up a one watch probably.

Entertaining, If Slightly Predictable Action Thriller

CIA agent Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds) is stuck in a dead-end position looking after a safe-house in Cape Town, South Africa. When Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington) is brought into his custody he is given an unexpected chance to prove himself to his superiors.

Featuring all manner of gunfights and car chases, many of which are very well shot, and thanks to very good central performances from Reynolds and Washington everything moves along at a good pace. However after an interesting opening Safe House settles into a rather over familiar plot in which the duo attempt to keep highly sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands. Many of the plot twists, including the ending, are also rather predictable meaning that, while it is more than watchable, this is not really a must see movie.

good film, denzel washington is a tough as nails rogue cia intelligence operative thats come in after years on the run. everybody from all sides are out to silence him, so it up to ryan reynolds to bring him in alive. the two stars hit it off well together with a good tight script and the film never lets up, yes it has been done before but denzel gives this a bit more. well recommended.

Safe House is an over the top action film with a fairly simple plot, making it a great film to watch with your mates. Similar to other Denzil Washington films like Man On Fire in terms of style. Parts of the story have all been done before but even so its still an entertaining film thats worth watching.

  "..COOL THRILLER.."

This is probably the best thriller in a while, very realistic and gritty action and car chases, cool story that is paced well and keeps you interested, Reynolds and Washington are both top of their game and give 110 percent, story has a few little twists, overall if thrillers are your cup of tea this will go down nicely.

This is a great action thriller and although it's nothing we have not seen many times before it does offer great performances from Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, as the story centres around the legendary spy Tobin Frost (Washington) has managed to elude capture for over a decade, this is due to him being one of the best op's men the CIA's ever trained and he uses his experience as an ex-intelligence officer to be one step ahead of the goverments persuit. He's wanted because of selling military secrets to the highest bidder and the damage he could cause could be immeasurable as all the dirty little secrets of double cross's and bribes could be revealed.
Ryan Reynolds plays Matt Weston who's frustrated by his inactive post in Cape Town as a "Housekeeper" as he aspires to be a full fledged case officer, he's a loyal company man who has been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself. When his first and only occupant proves to be the most dangerous operative he will ever cross and Weston is drawn into a very shady game.
The film is very well paced with some fantastic action as the two stars try and evade everyone who wants Frost. Reynolds really does hold his own against the star power and talent of Washington and he portrays a man out of his deapth very convincingly with moments of panic. It's also well directed and the South African locations are brilliant. The plots good and keeps you guessing who's on who's side until the end and although un-original makes for a very entertaining , well acted action thriller.

  SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR ONCE

I really enjoyed Safe House due to the plot. I thought the storyline was just excellent, and the chemistry between the two actors was top standard, even ones a good guy, ones a bad guy. It was just brilliant. I left the cinema feeling very very surprised, in a good way that I enjoyed it as much as I did, as I didn't really have high expectations before I went to see it - to fans of crime and action sort of mixed together, watch this. And prepare to be startled.
