  'Prometheus has landed'

I enjoyed 'Prometheus' myself I have to say. But only after I had watched it in cinemas twice and let it bubble around my brain for a few days afterwards and also have some conversations about it with other people.

Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic that sorta is and sorta isn't a prequel to his own 'Alien' is indeed a very different film to what I think many were expecting it to be. That was fine and didn't bother me because I didn't especially want to just see Xenomorph's running around tearing flesh apart. I can watch the 'Alien vs Predator' films for that really. 'Prometheus' has bigger fish and themes and ideas to fry and if it doesn't entirely succeed in making complete sense out of itself (seemingly intentionally) then it remains fascinating for what it tries to do more than what it succeeds at. There are BIG ideas bubbling around the crew of the 'Prometheus' and her crew's journey into the stars following what they believe to be an invitation to try and knock on the front door of our Creation story itself...................but like any large door, they will discover that some are not supposed to be opened by us. And while it doesn't succeed in making them all work 'Prometheus' primary advantage remains that it at least HAS ideas within it.

With mostly good performances (especially Micheal Fassbender as David but also Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw - our new Ripley like strong female centrepiece), some utterly beautiful set design and startling visual effects and one disturbing sequence in particular that gets as close as any other 'Alien' universe film ever has to creating a rival to John Hurt's famous sequence the film only starts to really lose it's way once it seems to realise that it only has about a half hour left to bring itself to a conclusion. The final third is where the film starts to feel rushed and begins to lose focus. However, there are going to be substantial additional scenes on thehome release version of the film in the form of deleted scenes which may well help this section of the film out. At the moment, I'm inclined to think Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof do have some inkling of where they want to take 'Prometheus' (and my hope is that it tangenitises further away from 'Alien' specifically rather than slavishly going towards it) because the film itself quite blatantly sets itself out by the end as only a piece of a much larger story. That's a flaw in the film as well in fairness, but it appears the film has been successful enough that at least one sequel may just come along. Hopefully, with Ridley Scott returning at the helm as well.

I would actually want to give it more along the lines of three and a half stars, but I wouldn't give it as low as three so I'm giving it four stars at this point.

Let's see what a sequel might offer!

Ridley Scott has once again inpressed with prometheus. Prometheus may not be what some expected but it is one hell of a thrill ride. Not only does it answer questions it also creates more. I very much recommend.

Ridley Scott has got the 'feel' of this movie spot on.

A beautifully shot and excellently paced movie which grips from beginning to end in my opinion. Getting the 'feel' of the Alien quadrilogy was very important and Prometheus gets it spot on. The supposed 'strong female lead' wasn't very strong in all honesty, but this is a very minor quibble from an otherwise brilliant two hours. Enjoyed the ending too.

  Great Movie

It has been said that this is not an Alien Prequel and in many ways that is true, however, it is in essence a prequel to an actual Alien prequel! a movie that has not been made yet. This is a good thing because it leaves plenty of scope for at least one more alien universe movie. I thought it was a great movie and explains a lot! If your an alien fan, you need to see this.

  underrated thanks to the hype...

Hype over a film is a funny thing it can either make or break the film, unfortunately Prometheus is one of the films that got slated by critics and fan boys alike thanks to the over hype.

Too much emphasis was put on the unofficial 'alien prequel' title, its not an Alien film, it shares the same DNA maybe set in the same universe and at some point creates a semi-link to the alien films. Why cant people just take it for what it is, a great return for Ridley Scott to the science fiction genre.

Obviously comparisons were to be made against his alien masterpiece, the tension is never built as high and claustrophobia of been in space is lost due to its pretty open sets for a film set in space. The storyline tries to be more clever than it is but is nevertheless pretty entertaining. The sets are stunningly epic, aboard the spaceships is artful with a lot of attention going into every little detail. The engineers are nothing special themselves but the surroundings are perfect. One tense scene in particular shows Ridley has still got it in a scene involving an alien abortion a very tense unnerving moment.

Cant really slate the cast they were great given the script they had, not much to the script you see, Michael Fassbender is fittingly perfect as David, Noomi Rapace also as fitting in her role. Problem - Charlize Theron amazing actress, so why so underused, when shes on screen shes great (she nails the persona of B****) also Idris Elba seemed abit misplaced.

Overall a very enjoyable film that stands on its own, please dont think of it as an Alien prequel its its own film and manages by itself. Ridley Scott still doing what he does best i think he should be given a chance before this film is completely write off, it deserves so much more.

  Beauty and the Beast

Beautiful...It LOOKS beautiful. Sir Rid did gid.

Beastly, is how it plays. A script with more wormholes than any of his universes. A damn shame to let the most adult of epic sci-fi series fall to the modern vapid-teen formula of 'give 'em the shiny-shiny and they'll ignore the dumb-dumb.'

The theme is noble and thrilling - the alien creature of subsequent movie timelines is black death itself made flesh by human conduit.

The execution of such a grand and ambitious scenario deserved more than this pretty space opera with vague purpose and baffling logic.

Shame. On them; the writers, the production crew, the continuity muppets.

But no shame on Sir Rid. Just pity at such a fabulous chance lost.

He gave us the Alien. That perfect predator would have blown this pile of hack out the airlock.
