In 25yrs time will people look back on Prometheus in the same way people look back on Alien, recognising it as a seminal piece of film making?
No, they won't. It's that simple. Plot holes all over the place. Just plain frustrating story telling, and a film I will not watch over and over and over like I did with Alien.
In it's own right it's worth watching, as a standalone impressive looking sci fi film. It just failed to give the deliver the wow (and horror) factor after the absolutely brilliant opening scene.
Saw this at the Cinema and wasn't overly impressed, beautiful as it was. But I have heard a rumour that a great deal of the film was cut to make a more commercial 15 rating. You may want to hang on until the DIRECTOR's CUT comes out. I remember Alien 3 at the cinema being really poor but the director's restored cut on DVD is far superior. Hopefully Mr Scott's cut of Promethius will be better with 18 rated scenes put back in. I saw an interview with Michael Fassbender saying that this was a scary film which wasn't the case at the cinema. As with Alien, Aliens and Blade Runner, the Director's Cuts were always better. Hopefully a 'full on' 18 cert Director's cut will be out soon.
Its difficult to admit that Ridleys made STINKER HERE, but sadly that is the case.I must qualify this statement by saying that if you were expecting a film on the level of say transformers or x men then you wont be disapointed, but bearing in mind the gravitas and quality of the storyline and script in alien and indeed aliens, this is simply unintelligent and at times just plain stupid, the characters are awful with inexplicable actions and terrible dialogue. The plot is full of holes and things that just dont make sense which a masters of the universe cartoon would be ashamed of, it does look great but thats it otherwise it is pathetic, it is hard to believe Ridley has allowed his excellent production values to be married with such an inadequate storyline and script, i hear there is another blade runner film in the making i am dreading it if this is all Scott can come up with.
I am 41, I remember Alien first time round and saw Aliens in the cinema at 16 then, Alien 3, Loved Alien Resurrection, and played both Playstation Games..... I don't want to give away the Film but ...Mr Ridley Scotts vision was Thought Out Well before....Alien, (the First Alien film, NO not Alien 1 ) ALIEN. If you played the PS or (whatever console) Alien games then it goes back to the Bone Ship. Makes total sense to me, and saw 3 times at the cinema. twice in 3D and once (last in Normal cinema) if you a fan of Alien and not some kid who thinks they are a critic. GET THIS FILM! Highly Recommended :)
Yes it looks nice, yes it is well acted, yes it has nice SFX. Story and link to the Alien franchise virtually nonexistant. Lots of waffle about finding a genetic link - its a film that thinks it is being clever when it is just dull even the odd scenes that are suppost to be funny are clunkers. Another example of a rubbish script given a green light. Has no one heard of the saying that you can not polish a tu ..... rd.
Dont waste your cash.
