A new comedy series from executive producer and writer Liz Meriwether (No Strings Attached), New Girl features a young ensemble cast that takes a fresh look at modern relationships. Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel) is an offbeat and "adorkable" woman in her late 20s who, after a bad breakup, moves into a loft with three single guys. Goofy, positive, vulnerable and honest to a fault, Jess has faith in people, even when she shouldn't. Although she's quirky and somewhat awkward, Jess is comfortable in her own skin. More prone to friendships with women, she's not used to hanging with the boys - especially at home.

Of her three new male roommates, Nick (Jake Johnson) is the most grounded. He had big plans for life, but somewhere along the way, he stopped caring and became a bartender. Usually the smartest guy in the room, he has an uncanny knack for reading people and uses humour to deflect everyone and everything. Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is a hustling young professional who fancies himself a modern-day Casanova. Though his heart is usually in the right place, he's always scheming ways to climb the social ladder and is driven by an immature and almost obsessive urge to be on "the scene." The third roommate, Winston (Lamorne Morris), is an intensely competitive former athlete who has recently come to the realization that he'll never play pro. He moves back into the loft and must figure out how to live in a world without basketball - a world where not everything is about winning and losing. Rounding out this group is Jess' childhood best friend, Cece (Hannah Simone), a deadpan, somewhat cynical model. She has the street smarts Jess lacks and spends a lot of time doling out no-nonsense relationship advice that only a professional model could give. She and Jess balance each other well and accept each other despite their faults.

As their relationships progress, this fivesome comes to realise they need each other more than they ever thought they would, and end up forming a charmingly dysfunctional family.

 Love It

Granted there have only been 4 episodes aired in the UK I love it.
The Humour equals that of The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother which I Love. Zooey is a great actress and the situations that her character has been put in are hilarious, the 3 roommates try to bring her character back to reality as such they are her anchor and it works the show is a must watch the show is really well written and I will be buying as soon as it is released.

Buy if you like The Big Bang Theory or How I Met Your Mother.

 Unoriginal but Watchable Sitcom

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

Have just split from her long term boyfriend Jess (Zooey Deschanel) answers an internet ad from three guys looking for a new roommate. The opening couple of episodes are passable, doing a good job of introducing the different characters as well as being fairly humorous in places. From then on much of your enjoyment of the show will largely depend on how you feel about Deschanel's character. She is undeniably beautiful but many will feel she runs a fine line between being cute and irritating during a number of episodes and not everyone will find her strange mannerisms funny.

Elsewhere there is the odd laugh to be had even if it is hard not to feel that you have seen many of the plots and scenes before in any number of other US sitcoms, was the 'accidently seeing your roommate naked' idea for example not already done on Friends? In the end New Girl certainly makes for a watchable, if rather predictable, sitcom (particularly if like me you are a fan Deschanel) but with many more original comedy shows currently available on DVD it is unlikely I will devote much time to a second season.

 Brilliant new comedy series.

From the teaser trailer I seen a couple of months ago I knew I was going to start watching this show because it looked pretty funny and it definitely lived up to my expectations and more. The main characters consist of Jess, Nick, Schmidt, Winston and Cece with some other guest characters occurring along the way. Each character is funny in their own way; Jess is the quirky school teacher, Nick is just down right funny, Schmidt is the douche, Winston is also quite funny and Cece is Jess' friend who is a model and starts living in the apartment with them a few episodes into the series.

The series is a real breath of fresh air, and I have seen the entire first series online already so I know how good each episode was and the quality is consistently great throughout. I'm delighted to hear this show is being renewed for a second season and I can't wait for it. This TV show is a light heart comedy and is a good watch for anyone.
