William H. Macy plays Jerry Lundegaard, a Minneapolis car salesman who is, by all accounts, a loser. He is desperately in debt, so decides to hires two thugs (who are bigger losers than he is) to kidnap his wife in the hope that his wealthy father-in-law (who bullies him regularly) will pay the ransom. When one of the kidnappers goes off the rails and events career out of control, it falls to Marge Gunderson, Chief of the Brainerd Police Department, to set things right.

Arguably the best of the Coen brothers films (they won an Oscar for the script), featuring two of their best usual suspects, Steve Buscemi and Frances McDormand who won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in this role.

The film raked in a range of other prestigious and International Awards, 36 in total - including best direction at Cannes and David Lean Award for Direction at the 1997 BAFTA awards.

One of my favourite coen films: The cool of frances mcdormand is unmatched! And their solution to the question 'how to get rid of a body without being catched' is so hilarious that you have to see it to believe it.
No question about the five stars.

A classic tale of a guy down on his luck he needs money and fast he comes up with the idea of having his wife kidnapped and then getting his wealthy father in law to pay the ransom.
One problem he employs 2 bumbling psychos to do the job what follows is mishap after mishap as it all goes wrong.
The Cohen brothers wrote and directed a fantastic black comedy here this is superb from start to finish the performances from the whole cast William H Macy,Frances McDormund and Steve Buscemi are great as the main characters.
Well worth adding to your collection and in my opinion the best Cohen brothers film around.

This has got to be my favourite Coen brothers film, for me they have not made a better film and thats saying something as we all know they make amazing films. This is story telling at its best, add to that brilliant characters and hilarious situations. It just doesnt get much better than this. A modern day classic and a must for any film fans collection.

 Fabulous!

Don't miss this film at this price. This is an understated classic. A hugely enjoyable film and one of the best from the Coen brothers. The acting is superb. No serious collection should be without it!
