I thought The Deer Hunter was a pretty good movie, I'm usually not into any kind of war movies at all but this one kept me interested. I really think it shows what happened in Vietnam even though it may be graphic it's a pretty decent movie. I really liked how Mike went back for Nick, I thought that was probably the best part of the movie, because it showed how much their friendship meant to him, I'm sure other people would have just left him there. I also feel like he went back to make Nick realise that if he stayed there longer, he would honestly go insane. One thing that kind of didn't work for me during the film was when Mike and the other guy fell off the helicopter, i thought that was pretty random, but it still fit with the story line. I think the music for the film kinda of made it seem more dramatic than it really was, so that was probably the only bad thing about the movie, for me anyways.
Great film

Well, This film takes a looooong time to get going and to get to the good part's.....Its a long film, 3Hr's.
It take about 1-1.5Hr's to get in to the good parts of the film, but its a VERY GOOD, Powerful film...When it gets into it, like the pistol roulette, when they are in a cage in water swimming with rat's. Over all 3/5 Worth watching :)
Hugely Over-rated!!!!!

I bought this DVD with the intention of buying a piece of movie history and i was so disapointed,
Yes I have to say that the scene where they play Russian Roulette is a great scene but that is the only reason it got more than one star,
There is about 20 good minuets in a 3 hour film,
Within 45 Mins of the start i was sat there wondering how it ever won 5 Oscars, especially Best Picture!!!
I think that there only deserved Oscar was for Chrisopher Walken's acting.
I am huge Robert DeNiro fan but to me this is the worst film he has ever been in.

Where do I start what a film. Outstanding acting from Robert De Niro and Chrisphopher Walken. The scene where they hav to play Russian Roulette with a gun is a tense scene. However the guy who is in charge of the kidnapping is so so annoying he won't stop smackin Robert and Chrisphopher god it makes you want to smack him. But what a powerful film.
The film is about Michael (Niro) and Nick (Walken) who are captured by the Vietcong, and are forced to play Russian Roulette by their brutal captors, who make bets on their survival.
deer hunter = AWESOME - A MUST SEE DE NIRO IS BRILLIANT!!!!!

I cannot fault this film. The Deer Hunter is truly a film that will go down in history as one of the greatest films ever made. An absolute classic and one of my favourites. The reason I have only given it two stars is basically because I am deaf and of the two versions that have been released on DVD, neither of them have the option of viewing with subtitles. I know this review is going to be of little use or interest to normal hearing people, and I dont expect too many people will find it helpful, but for deaf people like myself, it's a crying shame that the manufacturers can't make more of an effort to make our viewing a bit more comfortable. The U.S. version has subtitles. Why not the U.K. ones?
Some of the best invested hours of my film veiwing life!!!

Ive seen the majority of the greatest films ever made and i have to say out of all of them this one stands out. Infact i find it to be a insult to give it anything below a ***** star rating. So if you wish to watch a classic film this is the one.
One Of The Greatest Movies Ever Made!

The Deer Hunter is one of the greatest movies ever made. Ironically when I first saw it I was not overly impressed, but for some reason watched it again. I ended up watching it many in times in a short period as I fell in love with the piece and still view the movie regularly.
The story is about three men from Pennsylvania who go to fight in the Vietnam War and whos lives are forever changed by their experience. Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and John Savage play the three friends Michael, Nick and Steven respectively. They are brilliantly supported by the likes of Meryl Streep and John Cazale (who was dying from bone cancer during the filming).
The movie is well known for the infamous Russian roulette scenes, in some ways too much as the film is so much more than that. The film is a film of two halves - one pre-Vietnam and one during/after Vietnam. The first half is an almost perfect study of real life, the characters seem so real you can believe it is a real community. This is due to both the excellent work of the actors and fine direction by Michael Cimino.
There are many great scenes of interaction between the characters simply living a normal life in their small American town. It is a stark contrast to the Vietnam part of the story and amazing performances by Walken and De Niro especially make you believe the change in them following their ordeal.
It is quite simply a classic and a permanent member of my top three films of all time.
