This is with no doubt one of the most awesome series of doctor who in a long time, Steven Moffat has certainly turned the series around making it much darker with twists and turns everywhere, the stories are brilliant, a few classic villains have returned but most of the stories have been original, the ending to the series is great and gives all the answers to the long sub plot that plays out throughout the series! The beautiful Karen Gillan proves she is a fantastic actress with many creative stories and roles and Matt Smith is a classic doctor!! This set features the entire series plus many more awesome features!! An absolute must for any fan!!
I could not disagree more with the reviewer who gave this series only one star. Sure this series is not 100% perfect but I have found Steven Moffat and Matt Smith's work on Doctor Who the best to date. Some storylines from the last series have come over to this one, with The Doctor still trying to find out why slience will fall, An impossable Astronaurt kills The Doctor 200 years in his future, who is the Astronaurt and why is The Doctor's death a fixed point in time. Amy must try not to tell Their Doctor, 200 years younger when she see him again that she, Rory and River Song saw this. River's back story is also told and how she meet The Doctor for the first time.
I think this series is great. It sets up series 7 and continues with what Doctor Who is about, wonderful nonsense about a mad man with a box.
This show has managed to go from strength to strength since russell t davies left the show in the capable hands of steven moffat! matt smith is the best doctor since tom baker and he has made the role his own.
This is a mostly negative review so I'd like to start with the positives. Firstly Matt Smith, a brilliant doctor. The BBC were smart in signing him on a replacement for tennant because he is so convincing as the doctor, such an interesting charachter. Not as good as Tennant but that was never an expectation as he was one of a kind. Also the story arc, the death of the doctor. Brilliant creative writing from Moffat.
Now on to the negative. The show seams to have lost its ambition. It was once about visiting new worlds and strange creatures, the possibilities were infinite. But now what do we get? Sword fighting with pirates (so coincidentally at the time On Stranger Tides was released). a planet in quarantine that seams to be nothing but a white room and a monastery supposed to be a factory. So far the silence and madame kovarian have been the only interesting foes, however the first two parter was far too complicated for Who and Madame Kovarian has been given no reason for her war against the doctor.
The show is also too focused on Amy rather than the doctor, every episode seems to be more about her than the story. She was a good charachter in series 5 but now she is just irritating.
I am a big Doctor Who fan and really wanted to like this series but there was something missing. The opening two episodes really showed Matt Smith at his best as the Doctor but from there on it just didn't work. Anyone who has watched Doctor Who since it relaunched in 2005 knows that all the episodes are linked by a word or phrase which keeps popping up but in this series I when the finale came I felt it was all a bit of a anti climax and many questions were left unanswerd. Still worth a watch but not the best series in my opinion.
