Hugely underrated, this is a fantastic mixture of sci-fi, fantasy and crime thriller. In my opinion, the less you know about the plot before seeing the film, the better (all i would say is that the film starts with a man waking up in a hotel room with no memories and no idea of who he is). The film is complex and imaginative with a brilliant cast, superb special effects and truly amazing production design
(other reviewers who have mentioned 'The Matrix' should note that sets from the film including rooftops and buildings were re-used in that film). The only flaw in the film is the opening narration by Kiefer Sutherland, which gives away several plot twists. Director Alex Proyas was forced by the film studio, New Line Cinema to include it (if you are watching the film for the first time, you are advised to keep the sound off until Kiefer Sutherland looks at his pocket watch). Hopefully Alex Proyas will one day release his original cut of the film without the narration.

This DVD, from Entertainment in Video, is a disappointment. The only extras are the trailer and a 'Making of' featurette, which is only 5 minutes long. Neither of these is subtitled, though the film is. The Region 1 DVD has far more extras (including 2 audio commentaries). The definitive DVD of this film for me will include Alex Proyas cut of the film plus plenty of extras.
