A beautiful movie about the end of the world.

Cannes Palme d'Or winning director, Lars von Trier, assembles a glittering Hollywood cast in his beautifully shot apocalyptic disaster movie.

As Justine (Kirsten Dunst) arrives for her wedding reception in her sister's mansion home, her big day resurfaces a battle against her own inner demons. Whilst at the same time Earth is threatened by an imminent collision with Planet Melancholia - whose presence becomes increasingly ominous as the film moves towards its truly spectacular finale.

Kirsten Dunst won the Best Actress award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for her performance, and stars alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt and Alexander Skarsgard.

Truly a life-changing film. Thought provoking and intense. Everyone should take the time to watch this, atleast twice.

 Top film of 2011

Easily the best film I saw at the cinema in 2011. Beautiful imagery, extraordinary acting, and a deeply thought provoking, often disturbing narrative. An existentialist film which pulls at facets of human nature which all too often go untouched in film making.

Tragic, sad, funny, eerie and mind blowing!

Not necessarily an easy movie to get into, but this psychological drama has an underlying tension thats grips and builds right through the movie to it's cataclysmic finale!! Sublime acting from the two leading female roles, Dunst and Gainsbourg add to the movie's powerful intensity, movie of the year 2011 for me! Truly exceptional!

 Overrated and too slow.....

From the reviews I have read I thought wow! lets give this film a go and make a night of it (Literally........)

If the beginning was anything to go off I should have switched it off straight away. Melancholia is very overrated and a good waste of 2 hours and 9 minutes of your life. The only good thing about it was Kirsten Dunst being the only actress that can actually act. I would not watch this again as it is a complete waste of time and effort pure and simple because it was way too slow and far to long and was dragged out when clearly it did not need too.

The value for this film should be reduced in a few months and I would not rush out to go and watch it again.
