True story based on the letters of Colonel Robert G. Shaw. Shaw was an officer in the Federal Army during the American Civil War who volunteered to lead the first company of black soldiers, from volunteering, to training, to battle fighting the confederates knowing that if captured alive by them they would be executed...this film deals with the prejudices that they suffered and the inspiration that inspired over 180,000 black volunteers which helped turn the tide of war. Music is by James Horner.. Great Film.. Denzel Washington won an Oscar for this.. NUFF SAID...The Director Edwick Zwick went on to direct the Last Samurai
