Evil Dead 2 is a sophisticated blood and gore satire with wall-to-wall special effects that concentrates on the classic conflict between good and evil.

In an apparently forsaken cottage, Ash and Linda discover a tape recorder. They turn it on to hear the voice of Professor Knowby, who has successfully translated 'The book of the dead.' His words awaken the spirit of evil, possessing Linda. Ash begins his relentless battle against an all-powerful evil that takes many forms including the trees, Linda's decapitated head and even his own hand.

When evil appears to get the upper hand it is left to Ash to don a chainsaw and shotgun and rid the world of the demon spirit by dawn.

A rare case of the Sequal being better than the original

This film is awesome!
The 1st ED film is great, this is an improvement.
Its a very low budget zombie slasher, with loads of fake blood and cheesey acting.
Well worth getting, loads of future horror films draw influences from the Evil Dead series, check out why!

Not as much of a sequel as a remake of Sam Raimi's stunning original 'Evil Dead 2' though not quite as effective a frightfest as its predecessor adds enough spice to the mix to create a hilarious, gore-drenched horror classic. Cranking up the humour level to maximum Raimi adds a massive dose of humour this time round riffing on, amongst other influences, classic Looney Tunes cartoons and The Three Stooges. The result is the cinematic equivalent of a hyperactive kid - bursting with energy, impossibly relentless and hugely entertaining. Bruce Campbell builds on the role of Ash from the original to produce what is without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest heroic icons of horror cinema, perhaps even cinema itself. The figure you see by the end of the film - blood drenched, quite insane and with a shotgun in one hand and a chainsaw attached to the bloody stump of the other - is one that instantly burnt inself into my memory and confirmed that Campbell was an actor of quite extraordinary genius and talent. But boy, does the guy take a lot of punishment in the name of art - throwing himself all over the set, and getting beaten, bruised, bashed, smashed and walloped - and all in the course of only 1 hour 20 minutes. The sleek running time only highlights the fact that modern horror can be overblown, overlong nonsense. But here Raimi and co. have created a classic sequel full of typically OTT camerawork, fantastic sound design, cheesy effects, gallons of blood, laughs aplenty and unrelenting energy. Join Us....

 Greatness in DVD form!

This film is probably the best of the 3 evil dead films. The first is very low budget and takes a while to get started when the 3rd is an out and out spoof. Many people misunderstand this film and its intentions. This is not a horror but is is a bloodstained gore filled piece of fun and one of the most enjoyable films to watch ever. Just don't expect an conventional horror or comedy spoof and you'll love this film.

One of the very best satirical horrors ever made.

If you have seen the Evil Dead then you are unlikely to be impressed with Evil Dead II, but if you haven't then you are in for a treat. This is a fast paced extremely gory, very scary horror movie, with a simply brilliant story. You need to pay attention too, because there are twists in this film that are pure genius! I suppose the sense of humour will make or break it for you, it certainly made it for me. One of the best satirical horrors ever made.

I saw this film as young lad and its one of the movies that gave me my love for movies and the horror genre.

Permitted its not as classic as the first but its still a film i believe every horror fan should own.
