I don't usually write reviews, but this movie is a masterpiece.
As my title warns don't expect all action car carnage, because you'll come away very disappointed. Drive is a neon drenched thriller shot in the style of early Michael Mann or Tony Scott films. It even has a great 80's feel electro pop soundtrack that makes the whole film feel like it belongs in decades gone, where words were minimal and and it was a mans world.
The film starts with a very tense hide and seek game with the police as Ryan Goslin's character helps crooks escape the law by his exceptional driving skills and his cool head, but by day he is a stunt driver. The film then slows down to a crawl as characters build and back stories build, until the film gets back into gear with some breath taking drops of violence and car carnage.
I'm not going to beat around the bush as this filn will be loved as much as it's loathed, but I found this retro fitted no frills thriller a refreshing change to the GCI and cartoon action of other motorheaded films.
Drive has cult status written all over it.

This movie is one of the years big surprise hits with a brilliant story that is executed with style and paced out so well with plenty of action and drama and explicit violence! The entire cast is brilliant and believable and create very real gritty characters that you can really follow, a very slick and stylish and very original take on a gangster thriller with a hint of a love story, this is probably one of the years best movies so make sure you check it out.
this film is brill and will be classic, ryan gosling catches his character to perfection, carey mulligan is the young mum next door who he cares for but cant be with. the film is class, style and substance and characters have depth. there will be those that slate this film cos it doesnt race around at hundred miles an hour for whole time. some scenes go from quiet calmness to explosive violence in a second, brilliant and people that know their films will agree.
this film sells its self as an action/driving film. and to my disapointment it was so far from that. he is a stunt man!! who does one stunt!!! and a get away driver who does one get away drive!!! the rest of the film feels low budget and slow. i cant figure out where the hype came from!?
