this film is brill and will be classic, ryan gosling catches his character to perfection, carey mulligan is the young mum next door who he cares for but cant be with. the film is class, style and substance and characters have depth. there will be those that slate this film cos it doesnt race around at hundred miles an hour for whole time. some scenes go from quiet calmness to explosive violence in a second, brilliant and people that know their films will agree.

I never made a big deal about this film. I just randomly picked it up and decided from reading the back it would be worth a watch. And I wasn't disappointed, this film certainly delivered, the adtion was powerful and the storyline was just brilliant. As one review below said, don't be expecting a fast and furious style film. Expect a more exhilarating and powerful plot. Which also isn't about racing too.

  Mind blowing!!

The film is a master piece as the previous reviewer said and the people who rated it so low the film is very sutle and discreet that the ending is a bit of a twist with ground breaking preformances by Ryan Gosalin ,Bryan Cranston and Ron Perlman ,making this probaby one of the best films I've seen in years.

This movie is one of the years big surprise hits with a brilliant story that is executed with style and paced out so well with plenty of action and drama and explicit violence! The entire cast is brilliant and believable and create very real gritty characters that you can really follow, a very slick and stylish and very original take on a gangster thriller with a hint of a love story, this is probably one of the years best movies so make sure you check it out.

  slow and dull drive!!

I havent written any reviews for play, but felt driven to when i seen other reviews for this film.
Found the film dull and slow, not sure about building back stories and characters , there wasnt a likeable thing about any of the characters and Ryan Gosling seemed wooden rather than stoic!! It was hard to watch to the end (but I kept hoping something would happen) yet another 90 minutes of my life I will never have back.
But please dont think I am hard to please I love movies and the week I seen this I also saw 3 other new releases that were enjoyable and easy to watch.

this film sells its self as an action/driving film. and to my disapointment it was so far from that. he is a stunt man!! who does one stunt!!! and a get away driver who does one get away drive!!! the rest of the film feels low budget and slow. i cant figure out where the hype came from!?

Every single aspect of this films creation has been carefully nurtured and drawn together perfectly; the visuals, the story, the acting, the action, the sound and the atmosphere generated by everything mentioned previously. These all combine to produce one of (if not) the best film(s) of 2011.

A perfect blend of an up-and-coming director (Refn) and actor (Gosling) makes for a fantastically tense and emotional thrill as this film consistently manages to play with your expectations.

Don't watch any trailers, don't read a synopsis, jump straight in, buy it, watch it and enjoy it.

  Driving to nowhere

The story of a driver, a man who you never really get to know and a man you won't be given the opportunity to understand. The story revolves around this man as he's slowly dropped in at the deep end, he shows love and compassion but can it be enough to get him out?
The story is a little slow starting off, for the first 40mins it's a little dull but in the last hour plus its really livens up. The action gets hard and heavy, it's exciting and touching all at the same time.
It's a lot more quiet than most Hollywood movies, there's not a great deal of dialogue which gives the main character a lot more mystery. There's a retro 70's feel about the movie through the music and clothes worn but it all takes place in the modern day.

Overall: it's a change of pace for hollywood movies, and a big change for the leading actor. It's an interesting piece which entertains and touches the heart.
