From legendary Director Martin Scorsese comes a fantastic new 3D family adventure. Hugo is an orphan, clock keeper, and thief living in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. When his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric, bookish girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and a bitter old man who runs a toy booth in the station (Ben Kingsley) Hugo's undercover life and his most precious secret are put in jeopardy - whilst constantly having to hide from the threat of being sent to the orphanage by the unrelenting Station Inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen). A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man and a hidden message from Hugo's dead father (Jude Law) form the backbone of this intricate, tender, and spellbinding mystery. Also featuring Christopher Lee, Ray Winstone and Emily Mortimer.

For the first part of the movie I didn't know what to expect, it felt like there was like nothing was going on, a basic plot which didn't seem to be moving. It was dull, stale and filled with little to love, and then all of a sudden, with the turn of a key, POW everything comes alive and the story becomes one of the greatest pieces in cinema history. Mixing fact and fiction together a brilliant story forms and within it a great plot. The story is simple that even a child could understand but has so much depth and meaning to it even the biggest of kids can fall in love with it. Scorsese has pushed himself to a whole new level with this movie, the scenery was stunning, the way in which the characters came to life was incredible. Each scene was beautiful, bright vibrant colours which seemed to jump off the screen. I must admit the first part of the movie seemed to be dragging by the end I was wishing it would never stop. Brilliant film 5 star quality, a piece that everyone should see. MUST SEE!!

i went to see this at the cinema, unsure really of what to expect as i had only seen the trailer for the film & just had a rough idea of it.

the film left me lost for words, it was the most brilliant story, with a marvelous cast & beautifully filmed in the heart of paris.

it has everything & leaves your eyes transfixed to the screen. i've never rated a film 10 out of 10 before but there is no other score fitting for this work of art.

Not prone to grand pronouncements, this movie was on the undecided list for Xmas. Children [13 & 10] accompanied me; was worried it might be too slow/deep/confusing etc.

All I can say - - - breathtaking. The first film in a long time where I wanted to sit and watch it all over again.

And the 13 & 10 year old were in total agreement. A must watch.

If you have read the beautifully illustrated children's book you will know that this is one heck of a story. It might be a bit of a slow burner at first but once you're in you will be totally mesmerized! Films like this only come along once in a blue moon so, whether you're a nipper or an oldie - make sure you see this film, there really is something in it for everyone! ENJOY

*Set in the Thirties, orphan Hugo lives in the walls and Clock Tower of the Paris Train Station. He becomes familiar with the various characters around him. Hugo is also fascinated by the mechanics of the creations around him. However, the machines hold clues to various mysteries and the more he fixes the more he unearths!!
*This is a spectacular movie that like other Scorsece movies could be classed as an epic! Theres some great graphics and effects, a good choice of actors and a slightly slow yet moving story. This is the kind of film the family could watch at christmas. I can see why some people found it a little long winded. At times it is quite vague- but then Scorseces films sometimes are! Overall a mystical and enchanting film.
