Based on a true story, The Possession is the terrifying tale of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil.

Clyde and Stephanie Brenek see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter, Em, becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box. But as Em's behaviour becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst. They discover that the box was built to contain a Dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host. Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).

Directed by Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch) and produced by horror master Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Drag Me To Hell, The Evil Dead).

A film with plenty of jumps...

Based upon supposedly true events, this brings another element to the Exorcist-type movies, with some surprisignly good effects that will stay with you after the movie has long-finished. Based upon the adventures of an evil (Jewish) spirit trapped in a box, the spirit occupies the bodies of those with whom it comes into contact. And that's really about it. The box ends up in the home of a recently-divorced man, who has 50/50 custody of his 2 daughters. Em, the youngest becomes attached to the box, and the unwelcome occupant becomes attached to her. What follows is a slow descent into terror. Very 70s-ish.
Performances were uniformly good. We were scared. It was scary. We enjoyed it.

 Not so good

It didn't live up to my expectations at all.
Acting was good and there were a few moments that had good effects.
As a horror film it is really poor. If you think of it as being based on true events it improves the feel, but I wonder how loosely it was really 'based on true events'

Wait till it arrives on TV to see it.

 Must Buy!

I am a big horror fan and found this very enjoyable. Supposedly based on true events, but make of that what you will.
It starts off with a woman about to smash a box with a hammer, she's atacked be an unseen force and is thrown around.
Then the main story kicks in,as two girls spend time with their father (recently seperated from his wife),Emily finds an antique box at a yard sale and soon becomes obsessed with it.
Her behaviour becomes increasingly odd after she has trouble getting into the box,but finally opens it. In it she finds a dead moth and a ring which she slips on her finger,a ring that is clearly not wise to wear.
Soon moths becomes very much a part of the story, making their presence known.
As things get more and more sinister,it soon becmes clear...the box shouldn't have been opened! Too late!

This didn't disappoint,it may not be fantastic or highly original, but it works fine as a supernatural horror, one i think most horror fans will enjoy.

I liked this film!
I've always been quite scared of horrors about possessions etc and this one scared me! A few jumps, but thats not the point with this film, so don't expect to jump. The girl in this film is an excellent little actress very convincing and scary. Had a hard time sleeping after this film.
If you liked The Exorcist then you will like this.
