Hara-Kiri is a dark film, it paints a jaundiced picture of a political and social system where the appearance of honour is more important to the powerful than the ideal, and where peace has been won at the cost of individual freedom and mass poverty. The strict social classes mean that although most samurai have now never experienced conflict, they are unable to move into more socially useful roles and are constrained by suffocating codes and ideals. For a film set in a 17th century feudal society, it has uncomfortable parallels with our current recession and economic crisis.
Really is quite simply a great story and very deep typical Japeness classic film not a hack and slash lone wolf type film but a very enjoyable film so if your wanting a gore fest look else were
