  Quietly Entertaining

Nice easy film to watch. Very predicatable, had already worked out the ending of the film when the Elephant is introduced on screen. I don't think the chemistry between the two leads was exactly smoldering, however the film had a nice feel to it, and was entertaining.

Old style Hollywood drama.............but a bit stuffy.

Director Francis Lawrence's Depression era Circus set love story is one of those inoffensively lifeless period drama's that never quite sparks to life in the way perhaps he thinks it does.

Bookended by a present day setting the film finds us flashing back to Jacob (Robert Pattinson) who has been dealt a couple of hard knocks that see him find his way into being a stowaway on a Circus train. His Veterinary training coming in useful he finds work there and soon finds himself caught up in a classic love triangle between the brutish Circus owner (played by Christophe Waltz who can do this kind of thing in his sleep) and the beautiful Marlene (Reese Witherspoon), his wife and a performer.

There's not a whole lot of real chemistry between Witherspoon and Pattinson though, but the film is nicely produced with the old fashioned feel of being a film not commonly made anymore and it rattles along a relatively safe path until it's conclusion. I guess I'd describe it best as the sort of film that could easily pass a lazy Sunday afternoon but which I don't think I would rush to rewatch.

I watched this with a few friends and all of us cried. It is an emotional film and would suit anyone who wanted to watch it. The story line is great and Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon were perfect for the role. There is drama and tension which add to the atmosphere. It is a great film and its my new favourite film.

  Elegant and captivating

Astounding film with great story and fantastic setting. The magic feel and adventure of a circus was brought to life on screen in such a surreal manor. There was not a moment in which I wasn't transfixed to the screen whether it be due to the beautiful cinematography and depiction of the animals, or the way in which the story just motored along from half way through. The film reminded me so much of Titanic by James Cameron in it pacing and evolution of plot.
It was great to see Robert Pattinson in a new role and I think that he really did his character justice - although he is not a scrapper by any means! Reese Witherspoon continues to be a hugely intelligent and believable actress when she gets a serious role. By the end of the film the relationship of the 2 protagonists was very believable.
But actor of the film for me was certainly Chrsitopher Wlatz who is now a Hollywood gem after this and Inglorious Basterds.

Highly recommended film for thos ehwo want something a bit different but still captivating and mainstream.

Brilliant film! Well worth watching. I don't usually like romantic films but this is an exception.
