When it comes to Seth MacFarlane I am quite mixed on it. He is a deceptively clever guy with his three hit shows that seem to be dropping downhill to the point its become scary, far earlier than I thought it would seeing as it's inspired such a growing fanbase. Mr MacFarlane dropped the hint in the opening of It's A Trap that he's doing a movie, and the bases were loaded on his career. And he hit it out of the park!
Ted is by far the best thing MacFarlane has ever done, it has a funny as hell screenplay with a good comedic performance out of Mark Wahlberg and a shining talent from Mila Kunis, and of course Seth himself as the title character. Like Family Guy it does have fun with itself without becoming too self aware, it has the usual sensibilities such as 80's pop culture references and jokes, but the overall product is nostalgic while remaining a modern day comedy.
This film has made an impact and people will be talking about it for a while so definately check this movie out, easily the funniest film of 2012 and most likely the most hilariously written comedy since The Hangover or even Bridesmaids. Give Ted a go or enjoy the lightning filled nights alone.
