Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is a 30-something man living comfortably in New York balancing a busy job and active social life.

When the wayward Sissy (Carey Mulligan), turns up at his apartment unannounced, Brandon's carefully managed lifestyle spirals out of control.

From award winning director Steve McQueen (Hunger), Shame is a compelling and timely examination of the nature of need, how we live our lives and the experiences that shape us.

From reading the synopsis on this movie I was quite looking forward to seeing it but I can't express how disappointed I was. There was no storyline, the relationship between Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan as brother and sister was completely unrealistic (e.g. He walks into the bathroom whilst she's in the shower and she doesn't rush to grab a towel to cover her modesty?!). There was nothing likeable about the characters and nothing interesting happened at all.

If you like "artsy" films where the scenery is pretty and the camera work is good then this is the film for you. If you like a decent storyline and a character you care about then it most definitely is not.

 Horrible and desolate!

After reading various reviews about this movie, I wasn't too sure of what to expect........but after watching it, all I can say is.....horrible!!!!
This is dark and depressing and holds nothing back.
It has no shock value or even a story line, but offers a window into a life which lacks both feeling and emotion, and only shows a very sad depraved life without the slightest hint of explanation!
I'm sure there are people who will call it a work of 'Cinematic Art', I can only call it what I see.....DESOLATE!!

Fassbender should have won the oscar!

I went to the cinema to watch this because I think that Michael Fassbender is the real deal. I have not seen any actor command the screen in the way that he does in this for years. Gritty? Yes. Uncomfortable viewing? Oh by God yes. For me the two main characters were so clearly abused as children and hence their dislocated lack of the ability to form any meaningful relationships. Both Fassbender and Carey Mulligan excel in a deliberate and totally believable take on addiction and all of the fallout that goes with it. Awesome film.

Masterpiece. Fassbender cements himself as one of our best.

Michael Fassbender's acting in this movie is extraordinary. Carey Mulligan is beautiful and equally as sublime. The movie is a stark and realistic look at life, and it has a lot to say and make you think about.

I cannot recommend this movie enough, take other reviews with a pinch of salt.
