while the graphics were excellent the story line was weak. I take it the police were trained by star war troopers as they were unable to hit anything with their weapons. Far too many explosions. the only saving grace was dear Kate. Anyway looking forward to watching Dredd. japbike600

Watched this film with the thought of Arnies classic Total Recall in mind, what stood out was the special effects which were really good but it would help if there was a better script to mach.. Set in England in the future instead of Mars like the old version, similar plot ive lost my memory and now regained it but no classic one liners or humor like Arnies charactor and lack of aliens as its not set on mars mining complex... If you like running, chasing cat and mouse films with good special effects and boring script you will like this film, Probably more aimed at young generation audiances who didnt see the classic version

This is a film which just seems to go on and on and on. It's starts off well enough but fails to hold your attention as it gets more pointless and ridiculous. Disappointing as usual from a Farrell film.

I love the original, but it always seems better in my mind than it does when I catch in on TV. In this, the leading man can act - which is always a plus, and I agree with an earlier reviewer that he makes a far better everyman than Arnie.
I think it's a clever remake - different to the original (I don't know the book) but enough nods to it to give it kudos. One thing I would say - get the director's cut - it makes more sense than the cinema released version. Don't get me wrong, that version is fine, but if you watch it a few times you start questioning certain plot moves and assumptions which the director's cut (which is quite different in places) deals with. It also makes the politics of what's going on stronger.
The visuals are beautiful. The story pulls you along at a good pace. The three main actors do their jobs very well - and what a joy to watch strong women who aren't just scantily clad eye candy. The supporting cast do a good job too.
If you like sic-fi, if you like action (but not mindless violence) then give this a try - I think you'll enjoy it.

Utterly brain-meltingly terrible nonsensical dribble. Arnie did it better and that's saying something.

I saw this film in the cinema and it was brilliant Colin Farrell is amazing there is never a dull moment and it will have you
on the edge of your seat, a must see film! I will definately be buying it on DVD.

I too always had a soft spot for the orginal , but that's no need not to give this update a fair chance. This version keeps closer to the original source novel and keeps it's self on (and through) earth. Colin Farrell makes a for more believable everyman than Arnie as he wants something interesting to remember in his existance. Cate Beckinsale is outstanding as his wife/ex-wife and also Jessica Beil is great value as his fantasy girl. Once Farrell sits in the implant chair at Recall you are bombarded with scorching special effects, the best future city scapes Blade Runner and a none stop chase of fights, gun fire and near misses. I expected little from this film but extreamly impressed. It doesn't matter that the film is far less violent than the original, the same mind bending twists are in place and this update is far less corney. I'm not saying it's better than the 1990 film and this update will never get the same following, but this new vision is not a Total Write-Off.

I havn't seen the original, so I cannot compare to this sci-fi beauty, the futuristic special effects were brilliant. I was entertained yet stunned how good the visual effects where. Although the film starts quite slow it does all pick up when Doug enters Rekall. From there the action starts to pick up, and the film goes from mediocre to brilliant. Also with some great acting from Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, absolutely brilliant, as I said cannot compare with the original but I'm sure this is just as good.
