Based on real events, the dramatic thriller "Argo" chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis, focusing on the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played-information that was not declassified until many years after the event. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top "exfiltration" specialist, Tony Mendez, to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

  • Rescued from Tehran: We Were There - President Jimmy Carter, Tony Mendez and the actual houseguests recount the real-life harrowing experience they endured.

Saw this at cinema, fantastic political thriller, great story and very fast paced. Ben Affleck is suberb as is John Goodman and Alan Arkin. The ending will have you on the edge of your seat.

 Worth A Watch

After hearing so much hype about this film, I eventually decided to see what all the fuss was about. Unfortunately it was a bit of a let down.

As another reviewer stated, Affleck's attention to detail with the film was excellent and he should definitely stick to directing more. But his acting is still as wooden as an ark which, for me, let the film down. No wonder he wasn't nominated for an Oscar!

It took some time to get into, but as the film went on, I became more intrigued with the plot. But despite the incredibly tense ending, I was still let disappointed.

It's far from the masterpiece that it's made out to be and I definitely wouldn't watch it again.

My advice: It's worth a watch but rent it first!

 Oscar Well deserved.!

Ben Affleck proves again he is a force to be reckoned with behind the camera after cutting his teeth on Gone Baby Gone, then blew us away with the excellent The Town, now getting the well deserved oscar for Argo. We all know it's based on a true story, but what I didn't know was how smart, darkly funny and nerve shredding the movie is. A story that you would think would have been made up in Hollywood that actually sprang from Hollywood. The film is a hugely enjoyable thriller and if you think it's going to be stuffy, then think again. One of the best films of 2012!
See if you like......
Zero Dark Thirty.
Munich.
