Carnage

After an incident between their two boys in a park, two sets of parents meet in one of their apartments to discuss and conclude the matter. opening just as all seems satisfactorily all said and done, a simple invitation back in for a cup of coffee soon escalates and eventually crumbles into division and argument!

Starring four excellent actors and featuring a classic play structure with only four actors really and one location this is a heavily dialogue driven piece as all four characters facades and relationships and high grounds shift like sands beneath their feet! As such, the acting is great, the script is at times extremely witty and laugh out loud hilarious as well sometimes.

So why the three stars? Well, I've watched it a couple times, once in the cinema (when I would have raved about it much more) and then since. And I wasn't as engaged in it the second/third time around. These characters don't seem entirely 'real' - they exist purely for the purposes of the 90 minutes the film exist for and as such the initial allure is a little lost once the glow of the first watch comes off.

It's a good film, and I will want to rewatch it down the line. But probably not all that often.
