  Complete let down

Expected a lot more from this film because the books are amazing! They changed too much to make the film and obviously skipped over the gory deaths to appeal to a younger audience. Hopefully they won't bring out the second book as a film, would just destroy it even more.
Read the books they're a lot better.

  Pleasantly Surprised

Although a little long this film captures the first book of the trilogy quite accurately and enough of the story to get away with some mild liberties . My only real quibble would be that they have toned down some of the aspects of the book ....presumably to to get the 12 years rating .Still quite an enjoyable film all round

  Hunger games, overated, unconvincing

| | See all filmcritic1952's reviews (36)

I was expecting to see a film full of action but was totally disappointed, it took forever to get started, the plot was vague and unconvincing. The production and acting were good but everything else was laking. The plot was so very thin and the film did not convey the fear and desperation a person would feel if put in this situation. At times it was as if they were taking a walk in the park collecting flowers, sorry but it just did not happen for me and the film does not deserve the hype it received. I wish film makers would realise that if they over inflate the look of a film then watchers just come away disappointed.

Great film and the fact that the screenplay was also co written by the author of the books makes it so much better than most films that come from books!

A poor rip off of Battle Royal

Anybody thinking that sounds like a great movie would be better of spending that money on battle royal which I would rate at 5 stars
The hunger games is a western copy that fails to deliver the goods
Plot was weak at best
movie got very boring in places
acting okay
Action, what action?
I really can't believe anyone would rate this above 3 stars and those that did, do yourselves a favour and watch battle royal then tell me I was wrong to slate this film
A lot of hype not justified watch something else, you'll be glad you did

Not the most enjoyable film, predictable, long winded and just like watching a big game of man hunt.

so happy i borrowed this film as 10 pounds i would be reduced to tears

This film is great, a must watch for all movie lovers. It is over 2 hours long, but it doesn't drag by any means. Can't wait for the next one.

if you;v read the books then avoid the film , its been so rewritten that the main essence of the plot in book is gone , rent do not buy ,
