Set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990's Sierra Leone, Blood Diamond is the story of Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) - an ex-mercenary - and Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) - a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories as different as any can be, until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond that can transform their lives. While in prison for smuggling, Archer learns that Solomon - who was taken from his family and forced to work in the diamond fields - has found and hidden the extraordinary rough stone. With the help of Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American journalist whose idealism is tempered by a deepening connection with Archer, the two men embark on a trek through rebel territory, a journey that could save Solomon's family and give Archer the second chance he thought he would never have.

The price of diamonds today is not simply money, and this film shows how. Di Caprio effortlessly plays a Zimbabwean (lived in south africa) smuggler, who profits from the Sierra Leone civil war. The discovery of a hugely valuable diamond should simply fuel his ambition to make more money, and while it does, it also helps him build a friendship with a victim of the war who's trying to find his separated family. A revealing story that will make you aware of child soldiers in the world, as well as making you think twice about whether a girl's best friend is ethical. Great film!

 Edge of your seat thriller

One of 2006 best movies, this film will have you on the edge of your seat from beginnning to end. some excellent acting by Leonardo Di Caprio displaying why he was nominated for 5 academy awards for the role. Producers and director have done well to keep this motion picture as 15 certificate as it could have easily been bumped up to an 18 due to the scene of violent nature.
The film all surrounds the mining of "Blood Diamonds" in a region of Africa where civil war dictates the way it is produced. This is not a film you want to see if you are looking for an easy to watch film and falling asleep, give yourself enough time to enjoy it and you will. An absoulute steal at £5.00

 The Movie of the Year!

This is without a doubt the movie of the year. Outstanding acting (Support and Main). You can't miss this movie, it's so good. It's one that everyone should have in their DVD collection. Feel free to correct me but the fact that this is based around one diamond to me makes it very well wrote. This is something that most writers would find very hard. Same situtation for the directors. This is a must buy DVD! BUY!

Only £2.99? What are you waiting for???

An absolute corker of a film. The only thing i didn't enjoy was DiCaprio's accent, but otherwise a tense and gripping thriller which will keep you watching untill the end. I bought this for £11.99 and though it was value for money then. Now it's only £2.99 you can't lose!!!

Tears & disbelief that its based on truth and what a cast!

Totally blew me away! Leo and Djimon were fantastic as were the supporting cast.
You feel the gritty, dusty and corruption from the scene, filmed beautifully and portrayed in such a fashion that this film cannot help but move you to tears and disbelief that these atrocities occured all for the sake of diamonds.
I cannot urge you to see this film enough, Leo after many years has gone back to his true character acting roots from the pretty boy image and really proves his ability.
Great film!!
