Review

In 2005 a nascent Cure trio of Robert Smith, Simon Gallup and Jason Cooper celebrated the return of former guitarist Porl Thompson with a series of nine eclectic headline festival shows across Europe ( Spain / Belgium / France / Germany / Switzerland / Sicily / Hungary / Greece / Turkey )

This 30-song DVD is a wonderful reminder of how and why The Cure remain one of the most vibrant bands on the planet.

Filmed by a mix of fans, crew members and taken from the "on-the-night-big-screen-cameras".

While I am quite a big fan of The Cure and enjoy most of their many albums, I was quite disappointed after purchasing this 'Cure Festival 2005' DVD.
The Cure, in their prime, were an incredible live band that set a spine-tingling atmosphere with their goth-tinged alternative rock sound and moody lyrics. This was especially during the 80s decade. Yet two decades on, this Live DVD certainly proves that a band can lose their spark on stage. Each song was difficult to identify without reading the track list and straining your ears for recognizable lyrics. It was poorly performed and there seemed to be a distinct lack of energy and enthusiasm from the band members on stage. Maybe this is due to their age?
Even though I personally felt this was a poor live concert, I don't doubt that more hard-core and devoted fans will find it as exhilarating and fresh as a 'Disintegration' tour concert from back in the early 90s!
