A decadently imaginative interpretation of the life of France's iconic teenage queen, Marie Antoinette from her betrothal and marriage to Louis XVI aged 15, to her reign as queen at 19 and to the termination of her royal tenure and ultimately the fall of Versailles in the French Revolution...

I've been wanting to watch this for ages, so had high expectations. At first, I thought it was a bit bland but decided to give it a chance to improve - and before I knew it two hours was up. There's no big plot, no big event, it just was. The highlight for me was the over the top costumes and hair. Dunst didn't do herself a lot of favours in this because she wasn't playing a very deep character.

In my defence to Marie Antoinette.

I must totally and utterly defend this biopic of one of the most underated and misguided woman of history.
I was totally compelled and drawn into the version portrayed from a refreshing angle of Marie Antoinette herself which Sophia Coppola successfully produced. Coppola provided an atmospheric, fresh and youthful aura to the movie which was interesting in both aspects for many audiences of viewers and also in respect to the defence and accuracy of Antoinette herself, something in which i think modern day should be aware of.
I would totally recommend this film. Coppola's enigmatic and indie feel has proved a fresh and sensitive spin on a misguided and underated tale which should be told.

 A Stunning Masterpiece

Don't pay the slightest attention to 'critics'... see this for yourself. Not your usual biopic...but compellingly refreshing in every sense. A sumptious stunning movie that you HAVE to see!! Highly recommended...

I was expecting this film to be terrific. I thought it was good. A little repetitive. But I guess it gives a fair insight into her life. It's the kind of film i'd advise a friend to buy if it was really cheap... it's nice to watch but I think it's one of those films where the trailers show you all the best lines/moments and you think it's gonna be great but then when you see it you find it somewhat disappointing cos you've already seen the memorable bits on the trailers... but yeh - give it a go. it's quite funny at points... ish.

 Brilliantly Directed...simple yet effective

Why do so many people stuggle to cope with a film that has little or no plot?! At the end of the day, life does not have a plot. We do not have 'happily ever afters' or an ending where everything is right in the world. We simply carry on. This film, much like Sofia Coppola's 'Lost in Translation', does not contain a strong plot with a conventional beginning, middle and end. Yet that is a plus point the the film and the way in which Coppola manages to give a sense and mood of real life. This film takes a historic drama, Pride and Prejudice type senario and makes it enjoyable for a contemporary audience. Simple, feel good, realistic, and great cinematography. As with all films, you can tell in the first few shots that the director knows what they are doing. This does not dissapoint.
