When the lights came up on Black Sabbath in April 1994 at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, the expectant audience were treated to a masterclass in heavy metal by one of the greatest rock bands of all-time. Tony Martin, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bobby Rondinelli and Geoff Nicholls showcased over two decades of classic rock anthems including Iron Man, Anno Mundi, Children Of The Grave and Paranoid, recognised as one of the best heavy metal songs ever recorded.

Started by iconic frontman Ozzy Osbourne in 1969 with Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, Black Sabbath became synonyms with bone-shattering volume, songs with a sense of impending doom and great heavy metal music. Their eponymous debut album in 1970, deliberately released on Friday the 13th, was a commercial success despite being roundly slated by critics, reaching 23 in the Billboard 200 and number 8 in the UK album chart. The follow-up album catapulted Black Sabbath into the major league as the album's title track 'Paranoid' became an instant fan favourite and rock music classic.

To date the album has been certified four times platinum and is regarded as the band's magnum opus.
By 1974, thanks to relentless touring and million-selling album releases, Black Sabbath stood alone as the kings of heavy metal but the preceding years had begun to take their toll on the band members. By 1977 record sales had dipped and the band had become restless, leading to the departure of Ozzy Osbourne for a brief period, before he left for good in 1979, and Bill Ward quitting soon after citing "It was intolerable for me to get on the stage without Ozzy"........
