Gary Scant is a man on a mission: to match great sex with real love. As the ultimate romantic, Gary is certain 'the one' is out there and he's determined to find her... Even if that means dumping his girlfriend, Mel, on Valentine's night when she was under the impression they were about to get engaged - he'd even bought the ring. Gary casts himself adrift from the comfortable habits of his old life and makes a pact with his best friend, Paula, never to compromise on love. Exploring his new-found freedom, he becomes caught up in the love-lives of his family and friends.

"A Thing Called Love" should have been titled, "A Thing Called Genius". William Ivory's tale and take on love would warm the cockles of the stoniest of hearts. The acting from all concerned is purely breathtaking in this well written and beautifully scripted piece set with Nottingham as it's back-drop. It covers both tragically gritty drama and then comedically timed high points in one foul swoop and to it's well rounded maximum. It's a "will they won't they" tale of two friends, Gary (the extremely handsome Paul Nicholls) and Paula (the beautiful and talented Liz White) entwined alongside the trials and tribulations of their friend's often more complicated love lives. This series is gorgeous, fabulous, brilliant, marvellous, magnificent, amazing, wonderful, super smashing great and any other supearlatives I have failed to mention here! It's my absolute favourite "lovely" drama ever and I wish that the BBC would re-release this piece of magic to DVD again!
Brilliant emotional drama about a painter /decoratorGary ( Paul Nichols) looking for his soulmate and the trials and tribulations of his friends !! brilliant performances from Paul Nichols and paticullay LIz White ,(she was the bubbly Annie in Life On Mars) who plays his best friend Paula) but they both cant admit their true feeling s for each other till a heart stopping tearjerking dramatic last episode ...pity there wasnt a 2nd series ...!!...Drama at its best ,but why is it taking so long to come on to dvd ?
