The original nightmare that threatened the world.

Something evil has taken possession of the small town of Santa Mira, California. Hysterical people accuse their loved ones of being emotionless imposters, of not being themselves. At first, Dr. Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) tries to convince them they're wrong...but they're not. Plant-like extraterrestrials have invaded Earth, replicating the villagers in giant seed "pods" and taking possession of their souls while they sleep. Soon the entire town is overwhelmed by the inhuman horror, but it won't stop there. In a terrifying race for his life, Dr. Bennell escapes to warn the world of the deadly invasion of the pod people!

CLASSIC MOVIE, LET DOWN BY SLOPPY PICTURE QUALITY!

Top 10  Reviewer Top 10 DVD Reviewer

As all the other reviews state the picture transfer to DVD is lousy, it makes nothing of the great picture and sound quality the DVD can offer, but then again we are looking at a film that was made over 50 year ago, so the master copy must have been a bit battered and warn to do the DVD transfer. But saying that ,there are thousands of Digitaly Remastered old movies that now look even better than they did on there first print, so why not do it to one of the best Paranoid 50's Sci-fi's? But as a film the original version is still the best, yes it's dated, and the acting at times is laughable, but the concept of the film is still as chilling as it was fifty years ago, when it was made at the height of the comunist witch hunts. What ever sub context you get from the film it's still a classic, and truly deserves better treatment than this. It's not a bad price for a classic movie, but I would be seriously tempted to hold onto my money and wait for a Digitaly Remastered special edition to be released.

 What a disappointment!

No reflection on Play.com, but, I received my eagerly-awaited DVD of this film this morning. What a let-down! I get better film-quality recording movies "off-air" via the USB TV Stick on my computer!

It's no secret that this film is the one by which most other science-fiction films are judged, and, quite frankly, Universal hasn't delivered, and, let their loyal customers down.

Where is the Feature Length commentary? Where is the Theatrical Trailer? Where are all the other Featurettes, and, Extras that other film companies see fit to release with their Anniversary Editions? Last, but by no means least, where is the classic artwork available on the Region 1 release?

I have recent DVD's of "The Thing from another Planet", "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers", "Invaders from Mars", "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and, "It Came from Outer Space", and, watch them via Cyberlink's PowerDVD on my Pentium 4 pc. Without exception, their quality of transfer, and/or, "bundled extras", are far superior to this release.

If I didn't know any better, I would swear that Universal transferred an NTSC copy to PAL for this release, rather than transferring an original film copy to PAL.

It's a testament to the original production that it still shines through this travesty.

A TRULY AMAZING SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE!

The title may indicate that that you are about to watch a "B" movie but this is anything but. 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' not only is a genuinely suspenseful cracker but it enhanced the career of the director, Don Siegel (Coogans Bluff, Dirty Harry) and the career of the lead star, Kevin McCarthy. There is also a cameo from the soon-to-be legendary Sam Peckinpah. The idea that humans are being replaced by pods from another planet may sound absurd but the parallels with the McCarthyism politics present in the United States at the time and the sheer professionalism of everyone involved with telling a great story with such pinache is such a joy to behold. Remade twice, 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' ranks as possible the greatest science fiction film of them all. Owning a copy of the film is essential. Watching the movie is a MUST!

 classic sci fi story

The story is great, small town invaded by body snatching aliens that get you whilst you sleep, lone hero trying to escape and warn everyone else.
The DVD is interesting in that it gives a black and white version as well as a colour rendered one (quite well done), but knowing how much of a classic this film is its not really got that much extras on it.
