From one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the history of animated cinema comes the most acclaimed film of 2002, winner of the Golden Bear at Berlin and the 2003 Oscar for Best Animated Film and the highest grossing film in Japanese cinema history. Hayao Miyazaki's latest triumph, filled with astonishing animation and epic adventure, is a dazzling masterpiece for all ages.
A fantasy adventure film unlike any other, Spirited Away tells the story of Chihiro, a capricious, headstrong, 10 year-old girl, who believes the entire universe should submit to her every whim. Whilst en-route to a new home, Chihiro and her parents stumble on a mysterious cul-de-sac. Unwittingly they have strayed into the Land of the Spirits, a world inhabited by ancient gods and magical beings, ruled over by a demonic sorceress Yubaba. Finding an ally in the enigmatic Haku, he explains that in order to fight annihilation, to survive this strange and perilous new world, Chihiro must make herself useful, she must work. Chihiro renounces her laziness, her humanity, her reason, her memories, even her name...

This was the second production by Studio Ghibli that I ever had the pleasure of viewing and I was not disappointed in the slightest. At the time I watched it, over a year ago, I still did not really know what Ghibli had to show for but this film rose my interests in the studio completely and it made me start to pay more interest into it.
The artwork of the movie is amazing and the plot is brilliant. It also has a cast of lovable characters. Again it is set in one of Mayazaki's surreal worlds made from just his imagination full of weird creatures and locales, simply to make the production what it is and give it the classic Ghibli atmosphere.
One of Studio Ghibli's greatest successes, making it one of the most popular, not just animated, but movies ever produced. Not just a personal favourite, but also a worldwide one. Beautiful, I highly recommend this film for anyone.
Brilliant

watched it for the first time last night and just bought it now, deffinatley one of the best films i have seen and it is certainly a dvd not to be judged by its cover, what may look like another 'disney' styled film is infact a deeply engrossing and rememerable film packed with origonal ideas and many cultural references for those interested in that.
its a must see
Breathtakingly beautiful and haunting
