An excellently understated POW film. The tension of escape from the camp and then Nazi occupied Europe is palpable. Excellent performances from the main protagonists Anthony Steele and Leo Genn. Spare and controlled direction from Laurie Lee's brother Jack. A worthy comparison to that other POW classic 'The Colditz Story'.
