In the remote sands of the Moroccan desert, a rifle shot rings out - detonating a chain of events that will link an American tourist couple's frantic struggle to survive, two Moroccan boys involved in an accidental crime, a nanny illegally crossing into Mexico with two American children and a Japanese teen rebel whose father is sought by the police in Tokyo. Separated by clashing cultures and sprawling distances, each of these four disparate groups of people are nevertheless hurtling towards a shared destiny of isolation and grief. In the course of just a few days, they will each face the dizzying sensation of becoming profoundly lost - lost in the desert, lost to the world, lost to themselves - as they are pushed to the farthest edges of confusion and fear as well as to the very depths of connection and love.

 This Film Is Something Special

I just read the other reviews and had to add one. I saw this film at the cinema and I was blown away. 21 grams is a fantastic film but this one tops even that.

It is realistic and it is very involving. The characters most central are not the ones that you expect, and the messages put everything we are taught by the media into question.

In this film the muslims help, the French and British don't. Nothing bad happens in Mexico but the Americans (esp. the US cops) are not so nice to the Mexicans.

The Japanese story is bizarre but clever non-the-less because it adds another element to the idea of misunderstood languages, cultures and in this case the sub-culture of the deaf.

I think this is a must-see film.

An experience worthy of making you lose the will to live on.

To begin with, if I was advertising this movie it would'nt sell- maybe because I'd write in bold red font: "WARNING THIS MOVIE WILL NOT ENTERTAIN YOU". Are you still reading? Ok moving on...
You are going to sit down and watch this movie anyway because of its mega-buck hollywood superstars who to be fair played their part, if i say anything more than that, I'd be guilty of commending them. The scenes were switching so quickly, you really only had enough time to debate switching the t.v off before something knew comes up and your back thinking again. I must hasten to credit some aspects of the movie so i will admit that it is thought provoking, some thoughts like..."Why am I watching this?" Honestly, I do believe the most cruel punishment avaiable to us in the 21st century is to watch this movie and "Lost in Translation" back to back. The movie is slow when you want it to speed up, and fast when all you really would like is to ponder on some of the topics raised. However, I must say this on a final note, even though the movie will never come near my top 100 film-list, is the script was ingenious and I must replace all sour comments for utter praise as I do believe that this script infact was exceptionally clever and tragically more engrossing than the movie itself. For this reason I have rated this film with a 1/5 as oppose to not rating this movie at all. Even the script I expect will not be nearly enough persuasion to encourage you to rent this movie let alone buy it. I hope you will remember me as the individual who saved you from the partial loss of the contents of both your mind and wallet. I still find it difficult to move on as this tragic attempt of a movie, with no doubt, truly succeeds in tarnishing film history and displacing true filming ingenuity with a star-studded picture capable of only allowing us to admiring with complete sholowness, the complexions of other individuals who have, so it seems won the genetic lottery.

 miss it

Tosh. Utter tosh. If this film had focused primarily on Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett´s plight a better film could´ve been made. Instead we get a mish mash of different stories, none of which are remotely interesting. I didn´t fall asleep during this movie, I played on my PSP instead. Should´ve been titled: Babba, not Babel. Waste of time.

I thought this film was really good! Obviously not a feel good film but thought provoking and really well shot / filmed. Very good!
