I saw this film in the cinema and I loved every part of it. The film is well done with loads of detail and it is so funny.
I will definitely have a copy of this film. I give it a 10/10
The only thing is that the location of the film changes from America to London. It is really confusing.
I recommend anyone to see this marvellous film and to get enchanted.

I watched this with my daughter and to be honest, I didn't want to, however, I was totally surprised with just how good this movie was.
The characters are very entertaining and the story is a novel way to get across the ugly duckling idea.
Give it a go and watch it with the kids, if you don't have kids, watch it anyway, you won't be disapointed.

Being hardcore James McAvoy fans, my mother and I (I know that sounds a little sad) refused to pass up the opportunity of seeing him on the big screen again. I wasn't expecting much, just knowing that his performance would be amazing...as per usual. But the whole film shocked me. I thought it was very romantic but not over the top. I think a good word to describe it would be elegant. And despite James' horrific singing I will definately be buying this film when it is released.

I went in as a shallow James McAvoy fan who will see anything he's in cos he's 'fit', the film grad part of me was expecting the usual, band wagon rubbish which blights the kids film industry where so much actual magic (see what i did there?!!) actually exsists!!
I was completely surprised though! This film was classy, well written, very well performed and most importantly fun! I then checked the reviews and they seemed to all agree with me! Empire magazine i think gave it four stars! Dont dismiss this, if you like fantasy then buy it, it will be worth it! A charming and skilled offering and shamefully undervalued in a world where crap like Bee Movie is hyped up and shoved in our faces!! (please note i watched this with other 22yr olds and older inc boys! we ALL enjoyed it! as did my 10 year old bro and his friends!)

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Good Movie to watch

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

In this modern day romantic tale, Penelope is about a young girl's inspiring journey, a mysterious family secret and the power of love. With all odds against her, in order for Penelope to break the family curse, she must find true love with "one of her own kind" and realize the most important life lesson, "I like myself the way I am." Penelope Wilhern, born to wealthy socialites, is afflicted by the Wilhern spell that can only be broken when she finds love. Hidden away in her family's estate, the lonely girl meets a string of suitors in her parent's futile attempt to break the curse. Each eligible bachelor is enamored with Penelope and her sizable dowry; until her curse is revealed. Lemon, a mischievous and eager tabloid reporter wants a photograph of the mysterious Penelope and hires Max to pose as a prospective suitor to get the shot. The handsome down-on-his luck gambler finds himself falling for Penelope, but not wanting to disappoint her or to expose his surreptitious ways, he decides to disappear. Fed up by his latest betrayal and determined to live life on her own terms, Penelope breaks free from her family and ventures into the world alone. She finds adventure and Annie, her first friend and becomes the person she was meant to be.

Really one of the best films I have seen for a very long time. Christina Ricci gives a really great portrayal and we really feel for her. It's nothing too deep but then again, I don't always want deep. The story of the girl born with the face of a pig is really heartwarming and although the end is predictable there is enough tension built up for it not to be boring. The sub-plot involving James McAvoy was also really affective. It wasn't too big to destract us from the main storyline however we were still concerned about his character and couldn't wait for things to work out for him and Penelope. The use of well established actors, such as Richard E Grant and Nigel Havers, brought a touch of class and sophistication and sparkle to the film as did its timelessness. It's a beautiful fairytale set in a city far far away once upon a time. With such an enchanting story, who needs to know the credentials. I have mine pre-ordered and I deffinately suggest you see this film to so you can share in the magic.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved it!

I saw this the day it came out at the cinema's and didn't regret it! This is one of the best chick flicks I've seen in ages and I've seen a lot. The film does drag slightly in the middle when Penelope runs away but the ending more then makes up for that. If you also love James McAvoy then he is also an added bonus. Have already put my pre-order in.
