Norbit (Eddie Murphy) has never had it easy. As a baby, he was abandoned on the steps of a Chinese restaurant/orphanage and raised by Mr. Wong (Eddie Murphy). Things get worse when he's forced into marriage by the mean, junk food-chugging queen, Rasputia (Eddie Murphy). Just when Norbit's hanging by his last thread, his childhood sweetheart, Kate (Thandie Newton), moves back to town...

Murphy plays a succession of unfunny characters.

Another dreary Eddie Murphy film in which he plays several characters, for no apparent reason - and some of them are fat. Still, it might appeal to someone who likes watching prosthetics and doesn't mind the lack of any real humour.

 Why, oh why?

Any possibility that Eddie Murphy would recieve an Oscar for 'Dreamgirls' was surely destroyed the instant people clapped eyes on this disastrous, horrible, sickening excuse for a movie. What on earth was the man thinking? 'Norbit' is the kind of movie that any sane human being should stay away from. 'Fat suit' movies stopped being funny a long time ago and, although 'The Nutty Professor' movies were, at best, pain-free entertainment 'Norbit' sinks to all new depths of ineptitude. Eddie Murphy is, or perhaps WAS, a funny guy. (Coming to America', 'Trading Places' and 'Beverly Hills Cop', as well as his recent voiceover work on Mulan and Shrek are proof that the guy has considerable comic talent) but his efforts here is totally wasted in what amounts to little more than a puerile excuse for a comedy. If you've really got enough money to spend on putrid nonsense like this then do the world some good - ignore this DVD and give your hard-earned cash to a much more deserving charity. That way your money will be put to far more constructive use and, if enough people ignore this mindless tat, these films won't find the success they seem to and the Hollywood honchos who dreamt up such disasterous fare may eventually (though I sadly expect not) realise the human race is capable of so much more. Please ... give quality a chance. 'Norbit' is pure, cinematic vomit of a nausea-inducing kind...

there is no doubting 'eddie murphy's' talent, in this he plays three parts including the 'bi...........g one.
the story follows 'norbit' an orphan who loses his only friend at the 'home' she gets adopted, leaving 'norbit' alone and bulied, but there is a saviour, a big saviour on the horizon who becomes his new friend, and later his wife ? can things get any worse for 'norbit' of course it can, but then his friend from way back re-enters his life.
there are moments of real humour, but is it enough ?
'eddie murphy' has made worse films in recent years, let's hope he makes better in the future.
it's all right, but not brilliant.

 Embarassingly Bad

This film caused me to cringe out of pity for Eddie Murphy, a reputable actor who has the talent to do so much more than this feeble attempt at pretending to be an obese woman. Look at Beverley Hills, where he played Axel F to hilarious effect, and dismiss this terrible film from memory.
