Stardust, based on the graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess, takes audiences on an adventure in an imaginary world.
A young man named Tristan tries to win the heart of Victoria, the beautiful but cold object of his desire, by going on a quest to retrieve a fallen star. His journey takes him to a mysterious and forbidden land beyond the walls of his village. On his odyssey, Tristan finds the star, which has transformed into a striking girl named Yvaine. However, Tristan is not the only one seeking the star. A king's four living sons - not to mention the ghosts of their three dead brothers - all need the star as they vie for the throne. Tristan must also overcome the evil witch, Lamia, who needs the star to make her young again. As Tristan battles to survive these threats, encountering a pirate named Captain Shakespeare and a shady trader named Ferdy the Fence along the way, his quest changes. He must now win the heart of the star for himself as he discovers the meaning of true love.

This film is slow to get going but great fun in places with some decent star turns.
Michelle Pfieffer, Mark Strong and Jason Flemyng seem to have nailed the mood of the piece and give great performances whilst Claire Danes & Sienna Miller have enough moments to illustrate ability and beauty. It is a real shame then that ego-heavy performances from Ricky Gervais and Robert De Niro nearly derail the movie with unwelcome laugh-at-me turns. De Niro is just embarrassing and it is very sad to see that such a great actor can be so badly off form and over indulgent.
Worth watching though for a film with real heart and imagination.
brilliant fantasy

i didn't know what to expect with this film as it got many mixed reviews but was intrigued with director mathew vaughn trying something completley diffrent from his gangster debut layer cake.he's pulled of a brilliant fantasy that the whole family can enjoy with great turns from michelle pfieffer ,robert de niro claire danes and newcomer charlie cox.i would have gave it five stars but for one gripe the painfully unfunny and mr smug himself ricky gervais pops up in a cameo is there nowhere we can escape his very slappable face?
