Customer rating: 1 out of 5 stars Kitchen Bin Fodder

watcheroftheskies | 10/02/2008 | See all watcheroftheskies' reviews (1) »

This is the most explicit, but one of the least erotic films that I have ever seen. It is also one of the most pretentious. It also has very little narrative interest, and some rather over-done acting. Hence, it has just been deposited in my kitchen bin.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Thought provoking and much more.

If you watch this film see beyond the explicit sex, the three tragic main characters are much deeper than that. Watch deal with their problems, enjoy the music(especially the finale). Would I watch again? Yes, it has much to offer on many levels,it's bound to leave you feeling empathy with at least one of the leader characters. A very different and in a strange way very moving film.

this film is beautiful.i am sure that some people are not happy with the sex and graphic nature of this film, but visually this film is stunning. the actors put everything into it, their careers especially, and surely by the tone of the adverts you can see it is no porn film. it is a film about beauty and that beauty lies within the heartwarming honesty of the characters.
what is sex? sex is exploited every day. what gives porn the right to do it? we are human with animal desires too, and porn will always be welcomed and continue to treat sex as a functional object. this film gains the right to show sex by appealing to our hearts. it gains the right by being human, natural and beautiful, by capturing how we are without any fear.
i am bored of hearing about the sex in this film. while it is important i find it unimportant. i dont remember the sex when i think if this film. it is funny, and sweet, and how mitchell got his actors together and encouraged friendship with workshops over a period of time, is a testiment to how much this film is not about sex.
i am terrible at writing reviews.im reacting to that idiot who compared this film to porn.i am terrible at writing reviews.mostly because reviews are an opinion and i just called a stranger an idiot.

This movie is not just a porn dvd like some may have you think! I have made 10 people watch this movie and 7 out of 10 said it spoke to them on different levels, the other 3 just freaked out or said it was porn... I guess it really come down to one thing.... what your mind is like and if you can see past things. I loved it, I saw it as something like art and mixed with real life. I hope it will make you think about what sex really is or how you use sex to block apart of your life... the acting could have been a lil better but then I guess it's up to you. like I said I LOVED it!!

I'm amazed this has come out in the UK uncut - might as well get rid of the BBFC, surprised there is no explicit warning content listed with play with all it's gay/straight porn - but don't let that encourage you to purchase this in any way.Saw this sometime ago on R1 unrated dvd, thought it was ok but at the end just left me feeling - what was the point?.Not one I would watch again - glad I rented it and didn't waste my money.Don't waste your hard earned cash!!....................

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Short bus ride to challenge your view of normal

fmajeure | 19/05/2007 | See all fmajeure's reviews (2) »

From the opening sequences, this film is likely to shock and challenge your views of what is normal in sex. It is a fun ride and a surreal one. It will make some men reach for the yellow pages to learn yoga and others for the bucket. The central idea of a sex therapist with sexual dysfunction seems so plausible - physician heal thyself? The dominatrix character seems a little weak and the character stereotypical but not much else in this film follows the predictable. Yes, there could have been some more judicious editing, but it IS a fun ride on a road that is definitely going away from Normalsville.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars An adventure into the sexual psyche

JackDuran | 08/05/2007 | See all JackDuran's reviews (1) »

Shortbus is a brave film about people and sexuality. It tells the story of a sex therapist through a sexual crisis of her own. As she finds out about a club called Shortbus, interesting characters help her venture into her own sexuality as well as theirs. As events begin to broaden her sexual views and she begins to draw closer to the answer to her own problem - she has never had an orgasm.

Shortbus is all about sexuality, but it addresses the subject in a subtle way and doesn't make the viewer feel like a peeping tom. Instead, the viewer feels as if he is on an adventure. Although the film has some air to its plot, it is highly entertaining from begginning to end.
