Dr Barnes Wallis was possessed with a seemingly crazy idea - the creation of a bouncing bomb, designed to destroy the Ruhr dams and paralyse the enemy's industrial nerve centre. He fought persistent scepticism and disbelief that such a feat was possible though even with the matchless skill of RAF Wing Commander Guy Gibson and his squadron could such a mission succeed?

the film is so typically british, its a war film that follows the actuall events unlike modern movies, the film hits hard and shows the truth about the people who lost their lives. a trully great film always a classic.

Against Britain's men of courage, men of ideas, sense of mission, determination to win, grave humour, stirring music - how could Hitler and his horrible henchmen have seriously expected to have any chance of victory? They didn't expect bouncing bombs, did they? Like some insane nightmare or science fiction story - what a surprise it must have been on the night the dams broke to see these massive 'balls' bouncing and skimming across the reservoirs of the Ruhr; and what a shock when they exploded, causing the valley below to flood. It's an amazing, almost unbelievable story and it makes a wonderful film - a film of 2 halves as they would say in sporting circles. First there's the struggle of the brilliant inventor/designer, Barnes Wallis, to acquire the resources to design and test his remarkable bomb, then there's the dangerous adventure of the airmen who had to undergo special low-flying and precision targeting training prior to the actual bombing mission. Despite its age (over 50 years old) the technical quality is very good and the special effects aren't at all bad (you have to make allowances of course). There's a stellar cast of great actors who produce a fine, emotional performance - in an understated, British stiff-upper-lip sort of way. And the music is iconic. Excellent.
