It may now be 20years old, and i remember seeing it at the Cinema when it first came out, but this is one totally unmissable film.

If you like Sci-Fi, horror, or just great action films, you really do have to see this film.

Better than Alien? Not sure better is the right word, lets say different. even now the special effects are fantastic, but what sets it apart is the script, the acting, the action, the story and the tension. Sigourney Weaver is plain fantastic in this, but lets not forget a very memorable supporting cast!

Have to say that the special edition/directors cut does explain things much better than the original cinema release.

Oh and lets not forget one of the most memorable lines ever said in movies, and delivered with such venom and passion by Sigourney that you so completely believe she's really there.

All in all I'd say the best Sci-Fi action movie ever made, and certainly one of the best movies full stop.

But then again, look at who the director is. James Cameron, do i need to say more?

This is an absolute timeless classic. I have watched this film probably 50 times and I fall in love with it all over again every time I watch it. Sigourney Weaver is immense as Ripley; she got nominated for an Oscar for this role and should have won. It's an amazing performance.

I love the relationships that are developed in this film, between Ripley and Newt especially. That's what makes the film so good because you invest so much in the characters so you are with them through everything that happens.

I have seen many films in my life and I doubt if I will ever see a better film than this.

What a movie, it's easily as good as the original. But also adds to the story. This is a different film to the first as the first was a SCI-FI horror, this is a war film set in space. It's like one long nightmare as things go from bad to worse. Set 57 years after her first encounter with the Alien, Riply wakes from hypersleep into a whole new nightmare. As WAYLAND YUTANI the company Riply worked for in the first movie has decided to terrorform the planet LB4-26, this being the planet that they brought back the Alien in the first movie from. Shame that they have lost contact with the planet, So Riply gets called in as a advisor with the colonial Marines. What then happens is the ultimate in clammy tension. This still is Director James Cameron's best movie. You learn more about the Alien, and the ultimate pay off is the revalation of the Alien Queen. This is the best Sci-Fi monster ever put to screen. The cast all are excellent and Weaver deserved a oscar for her role as Riply. This is one of the best movies ever made.
A perfect movie.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Sequels Ever

negativecreep | 30/09/2007 | See all negativecreep's reviews (30) »

In the world of film, sequels tend to be pretty poor. They usually involve the same thing again, with the same characters doing the same thing, only set in a different location. What we have here is a very rare breed, a sequel that develops and expands the ideas of its predecessor and adds its own identity without losing the core ideals.

The best way to sum this film up is that it takes everything from Aliens and makes it bigger. Never mind one Alien, you get one hundred this time, along with their very big mother. Never mind a few lashed together flame throwers, this time you get full on military hardware. Yet despite all this, you still get the vulnerability and desperation of a rapidly diminishing group of people fighting seemingly unstoppable opponents. You also get the human side, as Ripley once again becomes the reluctant hero and shows her mothering instincts. The grim 'used space' feel remains, as does technology being no substitute for human instinct and ingenuity, along with the tension created by an almost unseen but tenacious foe

In fact, this is a major reason why the movie works so well, the Aliens are only ever glimpsed and despite all the firepower, for every one killed another takes its place, so technology is of little use. But what technology; power loaders, dropships, smart guns, turret cannons - set design is superb. The motion trackers especially are inspired; watching little dots getting inexorably closer proves a masterclass in tension.

The script is razor sharp (too many quotable lines to count), acting excellent and the balance between story and action is perfect. Is it better than Alien? Maybe, but in truth they are both brilliant in their own ways. This is how sequels should be.

Being born in 1985, I've always known about Aliens. However, it does not stop it from being one of them films that I will watch whenever I can until the day I die. It has a fantastic balance or horror, action and suspense. All wrapped up in clever acting and a fantastic story. Shot by the great James Cameron, you will not be let down by this amazing Sc-Fi horror epic.

This is pretty much one of the most essential purchases on dvd you'll ever own if sci-fi is your thing.
Considering this is now 21 years old, it still amazes me today - you won't get much better!
