My all time favourite movie. Nearly 30 years old now, but almost impossible to notice. H.R.Gigers monster is the most terrifying in movie history, and the settings, music, effects and cast are just perfect in this film. Ridley Scott's finest piece of work!

What makes the film so great is the feeling you get right from the beginning, that something is wrong. The crew aren't that nice to eachother and you can really sense the in-group tension. The ship itself is a maze of corridors and numerous rooms and feels very cold and more like a prison than where the crew have to live. For me the Alien is the greatest monster in cinema history, it is truly terrifying, soul-less and ruthless completely devoid of any civilised traits. H. R. Giger who designed the Aline did a fantastic job.

The actors do a superb job, portraying their characters in a subtle but very realistic way. The seven man crew is not a bunch of Hollywood heroes. They are ordinary people with strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes. In this way they all seem so fragile when confronted with the enemy. Sigourney Weaver is great here but is far better in the sequel Aliens.

The terror isn't just the Alien itself in this film, its the atmosphere that Ridley Scott creates that gets under your skin as well.

This is the ultimate classic SCI-FI, forget 2001, this outdoes everything before and after. The thing that makes the movie rearly hit home , is that everything is so realistic. The truckers in space aspect, with everything having a used look and every bit of equipment having a purpose. The acting is faultless, it's like watching a documentary as the terror unfolds. Ridly Scott's direction is perfect, as he stalks the actors around the ship, you end up looking in the dark corners for the actors yourself. But the star is the ALIEN. Never has a creature brought so much menace and beauty to the screen. From the Face Hugger to the Chest Bursting infant, and finaly to the adult beast. This is a perfect film, That made a star out of Weaver and the ultimate female hero out of her Riply chatacter. A must buy for any film fan.
Faultless!

The original 'monsters in space' si-fi movie. Nothing has come close to its originality nor its incredible realism. Countlessly replicated but never surpassed. The only film that comes close (although not set in 'Space') is John Carpenters 'The Thing'. This film is a must have for any serious film collection.
